David B Carmel , NY August 02, 2015 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator PTI22SFMARBS Ge Refrigerator Pti22sfmarbs: Rusted auger in ge fridge icemaker very common problem with ge fridges 2nd time for this fridge also did it for another ge fridge previously. How to replace Auger Helix. Replace the auger. GE makes this as hard as possible. You have to disassemble almost all of the ice tray mechanism to get the auger out. One tip is that you can unscrew the plastic nut holding the auger in place using a putty knife without having to remove the C-clip holding the plastic nut itself in place. But you still have to disassemble almost the whole thing. You may prefer to remove the C-clip, since reassembling the whole ice crusher "stack" without removing the C-clip can be time consuming. Also please note that part WR17X10529 *is* the correct replacement for discontinued WR2X9481--this is ambiguous on the AppliancePartsPros website--in some places it seems to say that there is no replacement part. 6 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 2+ hours
