David B Carmel , NY August 02, 2015 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator PTI22SFMARBS Rusted auger in ge fridge icemaker very common problem with ge fridges 2nd time for this fridge also did it for another ge fridge previously Replace the auger. GE makes this as hard as possible. You have to disassemble almost all of the ice tray mechanism to get the auger out. One tip is that you can unscrew the plastic nut holding the auger in place using a putty knife without having to remove the C-clip holding the plastic nut itself in place. But you still have to disassemble almost the whole thing. You may prefer to remove the C-clip, since reassembling the whole ice crusher "stack" without removing the C-clip can be time consuming. Also please note that part WR17X10529 *is* the correct replacement for discontinued WR2X9481--this is ambiguous on the AppliancePartsPros website--in some places it seems to say that there is no replacement part. Terrance H Farmersville , TX November 18, 2014 Appliance: Model TBX22PRBSRWW Rusty auger helix in ice dispenser I got a refrigerator from a client that had passed away. It was better than the one I had, so I cleaned it up. We couldn't use the ice maker/dispenser because the auger had been sitting in water. It was a bit of a challenge to take the ice bin/dispenser apart, and even more so to put it back together. You have to make sure the blades all go back onto the auger spindle in the right order (so take pictures!) And the lever to disengage the blades is tricky to put back just right. Just takes patience. But that one piece gave us back 30% of the room in the freezer since we eliminated the ice trays and bin that we were using. Works great. Read More...
