Christopher G River Falls , WI August 15, 2015 Appliance: Model PANASONIC SMH9187B Se error code on display I wasn't sure at first if my problem was the keypad membrane or the control board it attaches to but based on the experienced advice of Ed Miller at microwavecontrol.com who provided the part number and linked me to Appliance Parts Pros I ordered a new keypad membrane that turned out to be the fix. There had been a variety of errors with the display leading up to the SE error code (as if buttons were being pushed resulting in different prompts e.g. set light on time, etc.) Having taken the control board off many times to perform the YouTube "cleaning" removal and reinstallation was already familiar. After you remove the 2 screws on top for the plastic hood vent grille push it about ¼ to the left to clear the locking tabs you can't yet see on the bottom of the grille. When you reinstall it use a flashlight to make sure all 4 or 5 tabs are in their slot before pushing ¼ inch to the right to lock in place. There was an aluminum shield or tray around the control board of the old unit that was not included with the new part. This required tedious and gentle removal from the plastic housing to avoid bending. It appears to provide protection from the heat/moisture that causes these over the range units to go bad. 5 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes
