Maytag washer transmission, clutch and drive block replacement. Transmission bearing was bad causing it to be VERY loud while spinning. I decided to replace the clutch and drive block while I had it apart just to make sure everything was good.
The hardest part was getting the tub out. After some extra persuasion, it finally came out. It was binding on the drive shaft. Keep in mind, this machine is nearly 15 years old and it’s never had anything replaced except for the shift solenoid (which was a very easy job). After getting the tub
out, pulling everything else out was extremely easy. I did not have to remove the water pump. Pulling the old transmission out was very easy, it just came right out.
New transmission went in without a hitch. I put the new clutch and drive pully in , re-installed the shift solenoid and capacitor. Plugged it all back in and set it upright. I spent then next hour cleaning the wash tub, the outer tub it sits in and the cabinet. When I was satisfied, I put the tub back in and closed it up.
You really don’t know how much crud builds up in there until you take it apart and see it. Glad I got it cleaned up and hopefully it’ll last another 10-15 yrs without having to replace anything. After putting it back in place, I ran the recalibration so it’ll work correctly.
Appliance Parts Pro saved me ALOT of money. I certainly did not want to buy a new washer and fixing it is much cheaper...as long as you don’t mind getting your hands dirty!
