Was fortunate to have a second dishwasher of the same type. I took the button console assembly from good d/w and hooked it up to the bad one. It worked.
Ordered a new console and ops check good. Pulled apart the bad one, and some water must have gotten under button pad as the start button sensor underneath was rusty.
