There is apparently a weakness in the design of the stemware gripper, since both grippers in the dishwasher exhibited the same fault in the same places. Fortunately, replacing them is both inexpensive and a snap (literally - they just snap into place). It goes very smoothly if you bow the gripper slightly and insert the two end pegs first, then snap in the two mid-point clips.
