I replaced just the membrane. Unplug. Then remove two Phillips screws on top of the vent/diffuser, shift slightly and remove. Then remove one screw holding the touchpad. Lift up then out. Gently remove four connectors and the ribbon connector on the board and the touch pad is free. Remove three or four screws holding the circuit board to the metal bracket inside the plastic touch pad housing. Remove the metal bracket by gently separating the plastic tabs. A knife or small flathead can be used to pry a corner of the old membrane up then peel it off. It is about as thick as a credit card but flexible. Run the ribbon connectors through their slot and adhere the peel and stick new membrane. Reassemble in reverse order.
