After looking I figured out that the agitator and cam system was not working anymore. The agitator turned freely in both directions which indicated that the cams were not working anymore (turned out they had all broken off). I decided to replace both the agitator and the cam system.
So to fix.
You will need a long nut driver set or a rachet set with a long extension.
Remove the cap covering the center of the agitator.
Remove the center bolt by unscrewing with the nut driver.
Grab the agitator and lift the entire assembly out.
Place the new agitator in place paying attention to the alignment.
Assemble the cam system and drop into place per the enclosed instructions.
Align again and tighten.
If you are mechanically inclined this is a easy project.
