How to replace Door Lock Motor And Switch Assembly. This is the 2nd door lock to fail on the machine that is 4 years old. The first one failed after 18 months. Had to pay >$500 to have a repairman do it. This time I said I would try first. We knew what to look for ahead of time. The washer would not start. Shake door, turn off/on power, try again and it would work. You could hear the door lock, unlock, lock (3X) when working right. Since we knew what was coming I ordered the part ahead of time. When it finally failed, we replaced the door lock. It required removing the two screws around the lock, pulling the spring hoop wire from around the door gasket, and then disconnecting the two wire terminals from the lock. Reverse with the new part. Pay attention making sure the door gasket is fully seated and the spring hoop is fully in its grove when putting back together. Took the broken piece apart. In hindsight, I might have been able to bend a few pieces to make it work again but the new piece gives peace of mind. Hopefully, it lasts 2 years? I also bought the door switch since it's cheap - just in case the problem was not the lock. But the door lock was the fix. Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: Less than 15 minutes
