Jeff N Charlotte , NC August 16, 2019 Appliance: Model WCVH4800KWW Wash cycle would not start faint click instead of normal door lock sound Replaced door lock. It required removing the two screws around the lock, pulling the spring hoop wire from around the door gasket, and then disconnecting the two wire terminals from the lock. Reverse with the new part. After cracking open the old lock the failure was caused by a thin plastic tab breaking off. I also bought the door switch since it's cheap - just in case the problem was not the lock. But the door lock was the fix. Read More... 33 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: Less than 15 minutes Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers

Douglas F Washington , DC February 21, 2021 Appliance: General Electric General Electric WCVH4800K2WW The washer won't start. The door lock not working. This is the 2nd door lock to fail on the machine that is 4 years old. The first one failed after 18 months. Had to pay >$500 to have a repairman do it. This time I said I would try first. We knew what to look for ahead of time. The washer would not start. Shake door, turn off/on power, try again and it would work. You could hear the door lock, unlock, lock (3X) when working right. Since we knew what was coming I ordered the part ahead of time. When it finally failed, we replaced the door lock. It required removing the two screws around the lock, pulling the spring hoop wire from around the door gasket, and then disconnecting the two wire terminals from the lock. Reverse with the new part. Pay attention making sure the door gasket is fully seated and the spring hoop is fully in its grove when putting back together. Took the broken piece apart. In hindsight, I might have been able to bend a few pieces to make it work again but the new piece gives peace of mind. Hopefully, it lasts 2 years? I also bought the door switch since it's cheap - just in case the problem was not the lock. But the door lock was the fix. Michael W Boise , ID July 31, 2023 The washer could not lock the door to initiate wash cycle. It would just click several times. Took off the washer top (2-screws) . Used 2-long wood clamps to pull back wash cylinder, remove clamps around front door seal, pulled off right portion of foot seal to access door lock, removed the 2-screws securing the door lock, unplugged the 2-wires, put in new lock and did the above in reverse. New lock works great! I saw a video where they said it was easier to access and replace the lock through the top of the washing machine. Unless you have extremely small hands, just access/replace it from the front. I tried replacing it through the top of the machine for about five minutes, and all that happened is I tore up my knuckles on both hands. Replacing through the front is not difficult. Read More...
