Matt M Pickett , WI February 05, 2021 Appliance: Model FR2686LFO 1: loud noise on freezer side. 2: no water dispensing 1. After hearing a loud noise on the freezer side of unit about halfway up, I started investigating what it could be? My conclusion was evaporator motor or evaporator fan blade. One of the signs of this issue was a distinct change in sound when I opened the freezer door. I ordered a new motor and blade, not knowing exactly what it was. 2. I couldn't get water to dispense, so I changed the filter and that wasn't the problem. I ordered a water valve and crossed my fingers. These parts arrived quickly and were on standby for a later time that I could tear into this project. After a few days went by I came home to see a alarm / code on the refrigerator display (SY EF) and both freezer and fridge were shut down. I looked up the code and it was a evaporator fail code. Needless to say I had to drop everything and do this repair asap with the parts I already had on hand. I had previously watched the instructional videos, so I unloaded all the items from both sides and began the repair. After getting the panels off the back of the freezer in noticed a lot of ice buildup near the evaporator motor and blade. I removed both existing parts and replaced per the instructional video. My advise would be to thaw and remove any ice buildup before putting the panels back on. I reassembled with the new parts I had ordered. I did have to fight a little with the clip on the new motor. Make sure you hear it snap together before moving on and putting the interior panels back on. As long as I had the unit pulled out I decided to change the water valve too. I installed this per the video and checked for leaks. After all this work was done, powering up, and repositioning the unit, I was dispensing water and watching the temperature on the freezer and fridge come down to optimal levels. It's fixed! Amritt V Yorkyown , VA October 21, 2017 Appliance: Frigidaire Refrigerator FPHS2699KF0 S or 5 e ce later that changes to s or 5 y ce Walk into the kitchen on 21 Sep. Eight year old Frigidaire refrigerator appears to be short cycling, controls are nonfunctional. Unplug it for a few minutes, plug it back in, appears to return to normal function. Return to kitchen half hour 45 minutes later it's short cycling again. Panel has codes on it (S or 5 E CE, later that changes to S or 5 Y CE). Research of codes says replace main board and control board. Not sure where this main board is. 22 Sep call appliance repair. "Soonest we can schedule you is 02 OCT. I'll add you to the wait list in case someone cancels." 28 Sep call appliance repair and have them add replacing refrigerator door gasket to work order. I figure the tech can at least replace the gasket on Monday even if parts are still needed for the rest. Tech will be here after 0900 and before 1300. (Yeah after 30 years 24 hour format isn't habit it's the way it is.) 02 Oct Tech calls at 1230, he'll be here soon. Tech gets here, show him refrigerator. He pops the grill off, pulls the main board (Now I know where it is.) checks all the connections, pops the control board, checks those connections, asks "Has the fan been running?" "Yes when it runs the fan has been running." (For the past week and 1/2 the refrigerator has functioned maybe 3 - 4 hours of 24), Pulls the fan and checks the connections. (Now I know how that comes apart too.) Tech, "Sometimes the fan stops talking to the main board." Me "I searched the codes. What I found recommended changing the main board and the control board." Tech "Could be just the fan.", Me "Replace all three and the door gasket.", Tech looks at door gasket to see that it really needs to be replaced. (I did not roll my eyes.) Tech, "Okay. I'll look up the parts and let you know., Do you want to plug it back in?" Me "No, leave it unplugged. Great! Have a safe afternoon." He was here maybe 45 minutes. Tuesday passes no call. Wednesday, 04 Oct, 0905 call appliance repair. "Your Tech 'Tech's name' was here on Monday. I told him to replace the main board, control board, the fan and the refrigerator door gasket. He was supposed to get back to me with a price." Them "I'll get in touch with him and call you back." Me "Thank you." Appliance repair calls back at 1052. "Parts, service call, labor works out to $625 (there abouts)." Me "That will work, do it.", Them "We'll get the parts ordered and schedule you when they arrive." Me "Great! Thank you very much." Monday, 16 Oct, 1200 Times up. Place order for replacement parts with AppliancePartsPros.com, next day delivery, $625 (there abouts). Tuesday, 17 Oct, 1727 Parts delivered via FedEx. Wednesday, 18 Oct, 1306 sent the following to my bride "Alrighty then. All put back together, cleaned up and more putting back together. Appears to be running normally. Now we'll see if it gets cold." 1502 sent "Me thinks we be making ice." few minutes later heard ice maker dump and sent "Ayup, we be making ice." I will admit that the enclosed with the control board were tough, fine print, must have been a lawyer involved. Searched the interweb and found a full sized PDF. 21 OCT still awaiting call from appliance repair that parts have arrived and they are ready to make repair - NOT. I have been a satisfied AppliancePartsPros.com customer for a bit. Thanks!!
