This replacement part is an idler arm. It is a genuine replacement part made by MTD. This part is typically found in lawnmowers and provides support for steering and maneuvering the machine. A new idler arm might be needed if the user notices that the current one is damaged including being dented, cracked, or bent. This can be due to normal wear and tear. If the idler arm has become detached it is also recommended that it be replaced as the user might not have access to the full range of motion in the appliance. Be sure to refer to the proper user manual when attempting to replace this part. work gloves are also recommended. Note that part is sold individually and is sourced directly from the manufacturer. This is a genuine OEM replacement part to ensure proper fit.

This is a flanged lock nut. It’s designed to apply tension, typically on a joint that needs to have a certain amount of flex. As such, it’s mostly used on snowblower chutes and lawnmower handles. They can remain in place, but with a forgiving connection that can take a beating. The nut size is 3/8, with a thread size of 16. A lock nut will generally last for many years. However, the silicone ring inside will wear down if it’s frequently tightened and loosened. It needs to be replaced when it will no longer reliably remain in place. Generally, this begins as a symptom of slight slippage and worsens as time goes on. Thankfully, whether it’s being used on a snowblower or a lawnmower, this nut is generally straightforward to access. Simply unscrew the old nut, then screw the new nut on until it’s nice and tight. Our flanged lock nuts are genuine OEM MTD nuts, and they are sold individually.
