Kent S Springfield , OH October 24, 2020 Appliance: Model FRIGIDAIRE MFU17F3GW6 Freezer was shuuting down or not coming back on after defrost cycle I replaced defrost timer (which I am glad I did because of wear on the points) but that did not cure the problem. So after checking other components, I found that the temperature control was the culprit. No problem, I will simply order part # 2162521100. Well Frigidaire decided to obsolete that part and "Has not provided an approved substitute". So, I have to scrap this freezer and pay $800 to $900 for a new one? Not! So I kept looking at subsequent freezer temperature controls and found part # 216788000. I also purchased part # 216707200, control knob, because looking at the pictures and comparing the old switch to the new, it was obvious the old knob would not work on the updated switch. I intended to replace the old front mount bracket onto the new switch but decided I didn't need to do that. I simply mounted the new switch at 90 degrees angle and glued it so that it would not slide back and forth in the current cutout of the back panel. Then, I properly mounted the Styrofoam vapor box surrounding the switch. Frigidaire originally had it mounted with plumber's putty and it was loose when I removed the panel. Dumb application on their part which probably help cause the original problem. This repair was made about six weeks ago and so far the old freezer works as well as the day it was delivered. It was not exactly the same as the old one, did a little engineering, didn’t come with a knob but had it set by using a thermometer ?? Thanks, you all do good!!
