John P Enola , PA August 02, 2019 Appliance: Electrolux Freezer LFFH20F3QWB 21 month old Frigidaire upright freezer died. Noticed Rolls on the top shelf no longer frozen, though the meat around it still was. Note: This is a good test, keep something that thaws quickly and is not expensive on top shelf, to act as a barometer for your freezer health! I first found a trip online to advance the defrost timer, as a failed timer is a common issue. I advanced the timer, but nothing happened. I emptied the freezer, then removed the thermostat and tested it. No continuity! With the Freezer continuing to thaw, I researched what else could be the problem and narrowed it down to the Thermostat, Run Controller and Run Capacitor. In my error, I never tested the Defrost Timer. Since I had no continuity on the Thermostat, I figured that was the issue. I ordered the Thermostat, run controller and controller, from this site as well as another. I realized after this order that I would not get parts until Tuesday, even though I ordered on Saturday. The second place I ordered from said same day shipping, but I was not feeling optimistic. So, first thing Monday morning I drove 40+ miles to a parts store with the list in hand (including the timer as an adder). The only parts they had were the thermostat and the timer. I get home and replace the thermostat, and it still does not work. I replace the timer and it works like a champ. most challenging part was replacing cover for the defrost coil, as it is sharp sheet metal and the garage was very hot, so I was sweating profusely! Now being operational for 4+ days, it is performing fine. In fact, I find that it is running less than than before, which leads me to believe that the timer was bad for a long time. I could be wrong, but I recall the freezer used to run constantly. Now I am checking it periodically, especially when I do not hear it run. We only lost a small amount of meat, thankfully. Sad that this freezer was taken out of service by a $10 part, and less than 2 years old. I am grateful that I could fix it and save the cost of having a repairman come to the house (though I did try that route but could not get anyone, especially since the unit was out of warranty). Jd F Russellville , AR October 22, 2014 Freezer would not shut down kept running continuously Suspected it was the thermostat, since temperature stayed the same at multiple settings over a 24 hr period. There was only three components inside the freezer besides the evaporator, the fan was working, so I decided to just go ahead and replace the thermostat and defrost thermostat. Also replaced the defrost timer by the compressor, just to get all the old parts replaced with new. I had already replaced the compressor, so now I've pretty much have a new freezer. The new parts works great and the freezer now shuts down as it should. Only took me about half an hour to install the parts with just screwdriver. Rob S Fredericktown , OH July 03, 2015 Appliance: Frigidaire Freezer FFU20FC4AW2 Frigidaire upright freezer would not get cold After reading multiple threads on the appliance pro site, I determined that the problem was most likely the temperature control, however since I had to empty the entire unit and remove the back panel to replace it, I decided to go ahead and replace the defrost thermostat as well. I figured for $50 total, what the heck. So not exactly sure which replacement part solved the problem but the unit is back up and running again and saved my self probably $400 on a new unit. I will say, that Appliance Pros had very fast shipping and the site was easy to use to find the solution and the parts to fix it. Very pleased. Kenneth B Crossville , TN April 03, 2021 Appliance: Frigidaire Freezer LFFH17F3QWC Three year old Frigidaire upright freezer quit running. My barely three year old Frigidaire upright freezer quit running and we discovered it when most of the contents were just starting to thaw. Luckily we have nearby neighbors that my wife walks with most days and two or three of them came to our rescue with available freezer space to save the more valuable things like meat and seafood. The compressor would not come on, no fan, no noises of any kind but the light came on when the door was opened so obviously it had power. I unplugged it for a few minutes and tried it again to no avail. I got online and ordered what were said to be the most likely parts to fail and cause the symptoms my unit had. It took four days to get the parts. The starter controller on the compressor, the capacitor that plugs into that part, the defrost timer, and the thermostat. As others have said you always suspect the part that is the hardest to change and that in fact was the problem. Changing the thermostat last got it back up and running. It's obvious they don't make major appliances the way they used to. The last freezer we replaced looked like it was from the WWII era and had belonged to my wife's grandparents. I'm betting it was from the fifties. We unplugged it to defrost it one day when the ice got built up in it really thick and it would not start back up or it might still be running. Now I'm ordering another thermostat just to have on hand if and when it happens again.
