How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP6284905 / 5304513033 Temperature Control Thermostat

Suspected it was the thermostat, since temperature stayed the same at multiple settings over a 24 hr period. There was only three components inside the freezer besides the evaporator, the fan was working, so I decided to just go ahead and replace the thermostat and defrost thermostat. Also replaced the defrost timer by the compressor, just to get all the old parts replaced with new. I had already replaced the compressor, so now I've pretty much have a new freezer. The new parts works great and the freezer now shuts down as it should. Only took me about half an hour to install the parts with just screwdriver. 

I replaced the thermostat, re-assembled the evaporator cover and performed operational check. The unit is working fine now. Advised the customer. 

After reading multiple threads on the appliance pro site, I determined that the problem was most likely the temperature control, however since I had to empty the entire unit and remove the back panel to replace it, I decided to go ahead and replace the defrost thermostat as well. I figured for $50 total, what the heck. So not exactly sure which replacement part solved the problem but the unit is back up and running again and saved my self probably $400 on a new unit. I will say, that Appliance Pros had very fast shipping and the site was easy to use to find the solution and the parts to fix it. Very pleased. 

My barely three year old Frigidaire upright freezer quit running and we discovered it when most of the contents were just starting to thaw. Luckily we have nearby neighbors that my wife walks with most days and two or three of them came to our rescue with available freezer space to save the more valuable things like meat and seafood. The compressor would not come on, no fan, no noises of any kind but the light came on when the door was opened so obviously it had power. I unplugged it for a few minutes and tried it again to no avail. I got online and ordered what were said to be the most likely parts to fail and cause the symptoms my unit had. It took four days to get the parts. The starter controller on the compressor, the capacitor that plugs into that part, the defrost timer, and the thermostat. As others have said you always suspect the part that is the hardest to change and that in fact was the problem. Changing the thermostat last got it back up and running. It's obvious they don't make major appliances the way they used to. The last freezer we replaced looked like it was from the WWII era and had belonged to my wife's grandparents. I'm betting it was from the fifties. We unplugged it to defrost it one day when the ice got built up in it really thick and it would not start back up or it might still be running. Now I'm ordering another thermostat just to have on hand if and when it happens again. 

Found food partially defrosted. Fan was blowing but the compressor was not activating. After troubleshooting with on line chat ordered control-electrical and through in a new defrost thermostat since there had been ice build-up the last couple years and because it is inexpensive and easy to replace. Everything seems to be working fine now. One note: the blue and black wire on the control are interchangeable. 

I tested the fan outside of the freezer with an adapted direct plug-in cord and it ran fine. I tested the controller tsd it was within the good range along with the run capacitor and it tested good as well. I then tested the compressor resistance, it tested good, although the compressor could have been mechanically bad, it wasn't and I don't know of a way to test for it. I found a youtube video and tested the defrost control which seemed to be bad. Then I tested the control-temperature control and it seemed to be bad too. Turing the defrost timer and it did nothing. My wife then wanted to get a new freezer. We shopped around and there were no freezers anywhere due to coved 19. So I ordered all of the parts above except for the compressor and for just over $200 the freezer now works just like new. We are extremely happy with the results. For this repair, you will need to know something about a test meter and guess what YouTube has some tutorials for the basics, good luck! I hope this helps. 

I replaced the door gasket and the defrost timer. While I had it shut down, I replaced the temperature control also. 

I replaced the thermostat 

Determined the Cold Temperature Control was defective. Ordered new part to repair. Only took two days for it to be delivered. Thank you very much! Total time for repair was about 30 minutes taking my time and testing.
