John P Enola , PA August 02, 2019 Appliance: Electrolux Freezer LFFH20F3QWB 21 month old Frigidaire upright freezer died. Noticed Rolls on the top shelf no longer frozen, though the meat around it still was. Note: This is a good test, keep something that thaws quickly and is not expensive on top shelf, to act as a barometer for your freezer health! I first found a trip online to advance the defrost timer, as a failed timer is a common issue. I advanced the timer, but nothing happened. I emptied the freezer, then removed the thermostat and tested it. No continuity! With the Freezer continuing to thaw, I researched what else could be the problem and narrowed it down to the Thermostat, Run Controller and Run Capacitor. In my error, I never tested the Defrost Timer. Since I had no continuity on the Thermostat, I figured that was the issue. I ordered the Thermostat, run controller and controller, from this site as well as another. I realized after this order that I would not get parts until Tuesday, even though I ordered on Saturday. The second place I ordered from said same day shipping, but I was not feeling optimistic. So, first thing Monday morning I drove 40+ miles to a parts store with the list in hand (including the timer as an adder). The only parts they had were the thermostat and the timer. I get home and replace the thermostat, and it still does not work. I replace the timer and it works like a champ. most challenging part was replacing cover for the defrost coil, as it is sharp sheet metal and the garage was very hot, so I was sweating profusely! Now being operational for 4+ days, it is performing fine. In fact, I find that it is running less than than before, which leads me to believe that the timer was bad for a long time. I could be wrong, but I recall the freezer used to run constantly. Now I am checking it periodically, especially when I do not hear it run. We only lost a small amount of meat, thankfully. Sad that this freezer was taken out of service by a $10 part, and less than 2 years old. I am grateful that I could fix it and save the cost of having a repairman come to the house (though I did try that route but could not get anyone, especially since the unit was out of warranty). Kenneth B Crossville , TN April 03, 2021 Appliance: Frigidaire Freezer LFFH17F3QWC Three year old Frigidaire upright freezer quit running. My barely three year old Frigidaire upright freezer quit running and we discovered it when most of the contents were just starting to thaw. Luckily we have nearby neighbors that my wife walks with most days and two or three of them came to our rescue with available freezer space to save the more valuable things like meat and seafood. The compressor would not come on, no fan, no noises of any kind but the light came on when the door was opened so obviously it had power. I unplugged it for a few minutes and tried it again to no avail. I got online and ordered what were said to be the most likely parts to fail and cause the symptoms my unit had. It took four days to get the parts. The starter controller on the compressor, the capacitor that plugs into that part, the defrost timer, and the thermostat. As others have said you always suspect the part that is the hardest to change and that in fact was the problem. Changing the thermostat last got it back up and running. It's obvious they don't make major appliances the way they used to. The last freezer we replaced looked like it was from the WWII era and had belonged to my wife's grandparents. I'm betting it was from the fifties. We unplugged it to defrost it one day when the ice got built up in it really thick and it would not start back up or it might still be running. Now I'm ordering another thermostat just to have on hand if and when it happens again. Pamela S Stoughton , WI September 12, 2021 Appliance: Electrolux Freezer FFFH17F2QWA The compressor stopped running. Actually, I had ordered the parts to have on hand as spare as the freezer had been making loud snaps when the compressor was stopping. Two days after I received the start device and starting capacitor parts the freezer stopped working. The replacement took less than 15 minutes. Freezer is up and running. Note, some type of auxiliary light is helpful to get the support clip back on. Brendan M Pella , IA February 09, 2020 Appliance: Electrolux Freezer FFFH20F2QWC Top of the line Frigidaire upright freezer After reading comments the common failure was a capacitor to start compressor or defrost timer so I bought both and this did not do the fix. I took apart the panel inside to get access to the temp sender switch or thermistor. I put a meter on and there was no continuity when activated. I jumped the wires and the compressor started to run. Ordered a temp switch the next day and the freezer runs great. I should have started diagnosing the hardest switch to get to.
