The original controller shorted out I accessed the controller from the side vent-panel on our chest freezer, simply unplugged the old controller and plugged in the new controller. The approximately 6 year old chest freezer started right up and should be good for another 6 years. It was pretty straight forward, but the new control was up side down from the one I replaced (burned up). The two wires were opposite from the original wires. I realized this after the first install.
