First I have an LG French Door with a bottom freezer. It quit cooling. I went on line and watched some very informative You Tube videos. I trouble shot according to these videos. In these videos it shows that if there is a click coming off the compressor it has too meanings, the compressor is froze or the start relay is bad. Purchased a new starter and compressor run capacitor. Unplugged appliance from wall outlet. removed clip that holds these item in place. unplugged starter from compressor and from electrical wiring. plugged capacitor into starter, then plugged the electrical connection into assembly. Looked for obvious signs of mal-function, burned wires, etc. I found that the compressor controller(attached to the compressor) had an obvious burned-out spot. Took a chance that was the problem (it was); ordered all new OEM parts, including a new timer and run capacitor (a part that kicks in every time the compressor starts). I received the parts at 1 PM EST; by 1:48 PM I had the freezer working. Easily saved $250.00. A nice aside was that an Internet competitor was asking $53.00 for the same... Read more

I had a friend and a repair guy tell me it was the start relay that needed to be replaced, which was an easy fix. My friend said just to unplug the start relay, replace it with the new one, and it should be good. I've never tried to repair a fridge, and that was the easiest repair ever. I bought this relay switch and it works great. On the left side of the compressor there is a plastic cover you pry off with a screw driver. The relay switch had one wire plug on it. Just pull the wire off and the pull the relay switch off the compressor. Read more

Ordered replacement parts. Installation was under ten minutes. Took longer to move appliance than to fix it. Most amazing of all was the turn around time to order and receive the parts. After smelling and seeing the smoke I was able to spot the defective parts. Where the run capacitor connects to the control-compressor is where it was burning. First checked the power then took off the compresser connections cover looked for burnt wires or loose or disconnected wires they were none of those I then removed the wires from the starter an overload protector removed them checked both for contunuaty overload protector no contunuaty then I checked the 3 poles on the comp. for contunuaty they were ok then I checked each pole to ground on the com. to final check that the comp. was still good Read more
