Chris S Highland , CA February 15, 2016 Appliance: Frigidaire Refrigerator FGHB2869LF8 Ice maker evaporator would not defrost causing a large build up of ice in the evaporator housing Replaced evaporator heater and housing. Just make sure you also replace the thermostat. If not it is a little challenging to get the wires out of the old thermostat/ heater plug into the new plug. Also if you have the same problem be prepared to have a good heat gun to melt the ice buildup around the evaporator and drain hole. The ice build up was so bad that it destroyed the evaporator cover and was leaking into the refrigerator or should I say ice was forming below the evaporator cover into the refrigerator. Pw M Palos Heights , IL April 01, 2021 Appliance: Electrolux Refrigerator EW28BS85KS4 Ice build up in fresh food compartment rust on back of refrigerator in upper right hand corner I removed the fresh food ice maker found the drain tube for ice maker frozen. This was causing the back of the unit to rust out. This also caused the water to run down the back of the unit the into the duct work and into the freezer causing ice buildup. I then defrosted the freezer removed the rear duct work and the freezer drain pan cover. I found the freezer drain was not draining. I removed the exterior rear cardboard cover and located the freezer drain tube removed it and found that it was blocked by material that must have been there since the unit was manufactured and did not let the water to drain. Cleared blockage reinstalled drain. I installed the retro fit kit that I purchased that replaces original air handler part #AP6039735. This kit has a better seal and an improved defroster heater shield. So far so good. David S Lawrenceville , GA July 17, 2021 Appliance: Frigidaire Refrigerator FPBC2277RF2 The icemaker not making ice. Got the infamous icemaker freezing up problem so common to Frigidaire Gallery and Professional series refrigerators. I was also only getting the "OP" code on the diagnostic test 26, so I determined the defrost heater and/or the thermostat was probably bad. So, I went ahead and replaced both of them, as well as installed the updated air handler housing kit. What I didn't realize from the parts pictures was that the air handler kit was not only updated foam replacements, but it was also a replacement of the housing unit itself. Had to move the fan, crushed ice solenoid, and auger motor from the old unit to the new, but the instructions were very well written and easy to follow. Took a little longer than I expected, but no big deal. Have had ice production as normal for more than a week, so very happy! Erin L 159-23 , NY March 27, 2020 The ice maker would freeze over, tech came to fix 8 times and still couldn’t figure it out I found the real reason why it may not work on YouTube.
