John P Woodland , CA December 17, 2022 Appliance: General Electric Washer GTW460ASJ6WW GE washer would not agitate gtw460asj6ww. I looked at videos and read several blogs about my GE GTW460ASJ6WW washer not agitating. They all pointed to changing the Clutch and Washer mode shifter. Pretty easy repair that only took about 15 minutes. The old parts looked ok but changed them anyway. This DID NOT solve the problem. Took a closer examination of the agitator. I could turn the Agitator Base by hand without the drum turning. AHAH, maybe the screw came out? So I tried to get the Auger off to access the 7/16” bolt holding the base to the transmission shaft. You are supposed the puncture the lower ring of the Auger when you line up the hole with the mark. Was able to do this and shoved a Phillips screwdriver through the hole. Then you turn the Auger clockwise and it should release from the tabs hidden on the Agitator base. THERE WAS NO WAY THIS WAS COMING OFF. I worked it for an hour and could not get it off. They must have glued it when they originally assembled the machine. I ended up wedging a screwdriver under the Auger ring and pried it up at about 30-degree intervals. Got the Auger off the Agitator base but essentially destroyed them both in the process. So now we can get to the 7/16” bolt holding the Agitator base to the transmission. It was tight and the Agitator base was spinning freely. Something’s not right here!!! Pulled the 7/16” bolt and pulled the Agitator base off the Transmission shaft. Looking at the Agitator Base, the spline teeth were completely gone so it was spinning freely instead of engaging with the Transmission shaft. Fortunately, the teeth on the Transmission were still good. So I bought a new Agitator Base and a new Auger. Bolted the base in with the 7/16” bolt and the Auger slipped right in with a very easy counterclockwise turn. All fixed and working like new. A small tip. I went ahead and punctured the hole all of the way through on the base of the Auger. So if I have to take it off again, the hole will already be there and the guess work would be done. Jackie W Russellville , AR October 05, 2019 Appliance: General Electric Washer GTW680BSJ1WS GE top load washer “he” no agitator just a thing in the bottom called a clothes mover My washer is model GTW680BSJ1WS. I noticed the new GE model Gtw685bslws same specs as mine but it has an agitator. After some homework I ordered the 1) agitator base assembly. Wh43x25447 (AP6024287) 2) Auger assembly. WH43x25448 (AP6024667) 3) Cap agitator short WH43x25443 (AP6237536) . Total $63.45 plus tax and I installed it easily. My machine is a much better machine now it agitates the clothes as the old machines did, and does a better job on the balance before the spins. Just a heads-up you could check. This is info only worth looking into. Read More... 10 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers, Socket Set
