The Speed Sensor is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This sensor monitors the rotational speed of the drum and communicates with the control board to ensure the correct spin speeds during the wash and spin cycles. It helps maintain optimal performance and balance, contributing to efficient washing and energy usage.
Over time, the speed sensor can become faulty due to wear and tear, electrical issues, or damage from vibrations. If the sensor fails, the washing machine may not operate correctly, leading to various performance issues.
Symptoms of a bad speed sensor include:
- Washing machine not spinning or agitating
- Unbalanced loads and excessive vibrations
- Error codes related to spin or motor functions
- Irregular or erratic cycle times
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Broken washer belt and speed sensor James G. • Fort George G Meade , MD • April 08, 2022
I found a YouTube video, order the parts about midnight Saturday and-they came in the mail before lunch on Tuesday.
I laid the washer on the rear panel, removed both pulleys to clean them, installed the speed sensor. bolted the pulleys back in place, installed the new belt-making sure it was centered and everything moved freely, and attached the belt/pulleys cover. I set the washer back up, reattached the water lines, placed the drain tube, and plugged in back in.
Works like new !!! 30 minutes...
