Matthew B Austin , TX January 16, 2015 The hinge on the paddle broke so the spring was unable to return it to the off position Disconnect the power to the fridge. First remove the control panel by removing the one screw underneath and then insert a screwdriver into the small square hole underneath in order to pull the lower left of the control panel towards you. You are pulling against a plastic clip and you need to pull fairly hard. Once the lower left clip is free the other three come unclipped fairly easily. At this point it will make life easier if you unclip the wiring connector from the control panel and put it one side. Next remove two screws from this ice route case (look at your new one to see where they are). There's a third hole near the middle but that's only a locator hole, no screw involved. Now remember where the cables and water tube are routed (take a picture) and unclip the two wiring connectors and pull the water tube out from the chute. Install the new one in the reverse order. The only thing to be careful of is the control panel has tabs along the top edge that need to go in first. Jeffrey R Chicago , IL April 13, 2015 Left side of lever broken Replaced the whole unit. removing the dispenser display was most difficult. prying through small hole with screwdriver made the display bend. I was concerned about it cracking. several easy prys and it did pop loose. Had to take special care to make sure wires and water tube were back in proper locations before reassembling. looked like the lever is a bit tilted, but didn't see any other way Route could be installed. Tab is in slot, screw holes line up. Read More... 18 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
Thomas P Middleton , WI October 16, 2015 Appliance: General Electric General Electric PFSS9SKYBSS Broken dispenser lever on ge profile pfss9skybss replaced part# wr13x10737 Did enough google research to be comfortable in tackling this. Removed water filter to stop water flow in case i hit the lever while uninstalling. Removed one screw directly in front of dispenser Pryed where screwdriver slot next to screw (removed) was located, pulling horizontally towards me until the LCD display came out. It is held in by plastic clips - the LCD display and the plastic piece (where the screw was) remain in one piece - avoid the temptation to separate them Remove two screws holding the dispenser unit onto the door. Pull dispenser unit out towards you Remove wire connections & slide water-tube out the top of the old mechanism. Replace with the new mechanism Route wires/tube back as they were Fasten mechanism back into place using the two screws Replace Display & plastic piece by snapping back into place Replace the single screw into the plastic piece. Was done in 15 minutes or less. Worst part was fear of damaging the plastic piece and the LCD display - fairly strong force needed to unsnap it but no damage so I was relieved when it came out damage free.
