How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP4413234 / WR13X10737 Refrigerator Dispenser Ice Chute Door And Funnel Assembly

Replaced the whole unit. removing the dispenser display was most difficult. prying through small hole with screwdriver made the display bend. I was concerned about it cracking. several easy prys and it did pop loose. Had to take special care to make sure wires and water tube were back in proper locations before reassembling. looked like the lever is a bit tilted, but didn't see any other way Route could be installed. Tab is in slot, screw holes line up. 

Did enough google research to be comfortable in tackling this. Removed water filter to stop water flow in case i hit the lever while uninstalling. Removed one screw directly in front of dispenser Pryed where screwdriver slot next to screw (removed) was located, pulling horizontally towards me until the LCD display came out. It is held in by plastic clips - the LCD display and the plastic piece (where the screw was) remain in one piece - avoid the temptation to separate them Remove two screws holding the dispenser unit onto the door. Pull dispenser unit out towards you Remove wire connections & slide water-tube out the top of the old mechanism. Replace with the new mechanism Route wires/tube back as they were Fasten mechanism back into place using the two screws Replace Display & plastic piece by snapping back into place Replace the single screw into the plastic piece. Was done in 15 minutes or less. Worst part was fear of damaging the plastic piece and the LCD display - fairly strong force needed to unsnap it but no damage so I was relieved when it came out damage free. 

Replaced the ice route assembly. 

It was very easy, only hard to put screws in. Suggest using a screwdriver that is magnetized to help guide screw on. 

The noise came from the assembly opening a flap in the door dispenser which then allowed the ice to be augured out through the dispenser. This had been going on for a month and getting worse in noise and time to open. Most significant problem was finding the part which had an unusual name and not diagram available on the internet. Searched several parts sites no luck in finding the part name or number. Talked to OEM rep and they could not find the part. Appliance Parts rep. spent the time to locate and bought from them (they cost a bit more but worth it). Hard part was figuring out how to get the control panel off so called APP and since I bought the part again their rep looked it up and emailed the manual. You needed to take a screw out then insert a screw driver in a slot and pry the face off. Felt like you might break it but got the lower right corner off and worked off the rest. After that matter of taking two screws out. Recommend a magnetic tip Philips to avoid losing the two screws. Then disconnect cables and reconnect. Would not got it done without a look at the manual or prior knowledge. No U-tube exactly like my fridge configuration. 

Replaced the crusher assembly. Followed directions given when I ordered the part via chat. They were perfect!!! Removed one screw and slid out the control panel. Two more screws and the assembly dropped out. Disconnected the 3 wire connections. Then reversed the process. Plugged it back into the power and DONE!!!!! Saved about $150.00 service call 

Swapped out the old part for the new one. 

I replaced the ice/water dispenser unit. Using a very skinny screw driver in the small hole on the bottom dispenser control panel. I loosened the retaining hooks and pulled the panel forward. I noticed a minor difference between the new and old panel, which was a green grounding wire that was on the older unit. The new unit did not come with the wire, so I swapped the wiring harness to ensure I met the previous configuration. After reassembling everything, the dispenser worked perfectly. 

Replaced part. 

I ordered a new part, got some help from YouTube and installed the new part. Now not only was the flapper trigger thing working but the ice cube dispenser worked too. I got a Lotta good points with my family.
