GE Profile convection oven, Model # PK956SR1SS. This is the top oven in a double oven set. Top oven is convection oven, but the fan blower that I replaced is NOT the convection fan that you see on the back wall of oven. It is called a "blower tangential assembly." I believe it exhausts hot air from above the oven near the control panel, to keep the electronic components from overheating. It comes on anytime the oven is on whether you are using convection or not.
I shut off the power at the panel, but this may not be necessary. Open oven door. You will need to have a box or plastic milk crate sitting on top of the oven door to support the control panel after you remove it. Remove the three 1/4 inch sheet metal screws on the bottom of control panel, & lift it off carefully. YOU NOW MUST support it after that, because it is still connected by various wire assemblies ( and you shouldn't have to disconnect those). Blower assembly is in the back left. Disconnect the wiring harness by unsnapping the quick connector (make note of, or take a picture of how the wires are connected… Red goes to red).. Blower unit has 2 sheet metal screws on the top, and 2 very difficult to see/reach ones on the bottom. You cannot even see them without a mirror or a camera. A short/study reversible nut driver with magnetic tip would be the best for removing these … I used a ratchet. It was not fun, especially on the bottom. Once unscrewed, llift the blower out by gently rotating it up and toward you and then remove it out through the right side of the space. Installing the new unit is basically the reverse of this, but it is a challenge to line up the sheet metal screw holes prior to screwing them in - I used my cell phone video with the light on to be able to see into the tight space, watched the images and made adjustments until it was lined up. I did bottom right first, then top right, then the left side.
Don't forget to re-connect the unit's wiring harness.
When putting the control panel back on, make sure the wires are tucked in, not caught or bound up etc. On the bottom of the control panel, you will need to set the stainless cover of control panel in between layers of gray sheet metal and black sheet metal. So, the black sheet metal ends up on the outside. It will not fit/sit correctly if you don't do it that way (The top will sit too low and will not be secured).
Screw in the three sheet metal screws on the bottom of control panel, and you are finished. Before putting my control panel back on, I turned on the oven using both regular bake, and convection bake, to make sure the blower was working properly ( in other words, it was not squeaking).
If you disconnected the power, you will have to reset your clock time.
If you have the right tools, that should take you less than an hour. 90 minutes for me...You'll likely save a couple hundred bucks anyway! Good luck.
