Robert K Devon , PA July 10, 2016 Appliance: Model GTS 21KBXABB My ge refrigerator had cold freezer but a warm refrigerator section I first watched U-Tube tutorials for an hour that addressed the defect and demonstrated the typical repair formats. There could be 4 separate components that required careful testing to determine which part had failed. I called GE service and they sent a technician to inspect my refrigerator and diagnose the problem and identify the defective component which was the evaporator fan motor. I watched the tech. take apart my freezer and saw the technique. That step cost $100.00. The tech wanted to replace the motor but did not have the part on his truck. He advised me that he would return in 3 days with the motor and complete the repair. The labor cost to do the repair was $80.00 and the part cost was $57.60, after application of a 20% GE on-line discount coupon. I told the tech I would call GE if I wanted them to complete the repair. I then went on-line to shop the part. I discovered that AppliancePartsPros.com was the least expensive at $43.00 for the part which included sales tax and shipping expense. I ordered the part in the morning from APP.com. The following afternoon the part was delivered to my home. I obtained one day delivery service as part of APP.com standard delivery schedule. The replacement motor seemed to be correct. I remembered how the GE Tech disassembled the inside back of my freezer to inspect the defective motor. I remembered the U-Tube tutorials on how to install a new motor. I was able to remove the defective motor and replace it with the part from APP.com. Once the work was completed my refrigerator operated correctly. All of these appliance repairs require some mechanical skill and intuitive ability to analyze and comprehend how a component is situated, functions and connected within an appliance. Spend time and patience watching the various U-Tube tutorials describing how to repair a given defect. Making a correct and accurate problem or component diagnosis is about 85% of the task and will prevent expensive and time consuming guesses as to what part needs replacement. Remember, that you lack the training, experience and information that the manufacturers' technicians have when they arrive at your home to perform a needed repair. Robert B Wellesley , MA December 17, 2017 Our freezer fan was making a lot of noise we weren't sure of if the problem was the fan the motor or the panel vibrating I found an exploded drawing and part list on the manufacturer's site. I ordered new fan parts from APP because of the low prices and fast shipping. We have a standard size top freezer GE refrigerator. Four screws hold the back panel (inside the freezer) in place. After removing the screws the panel comes off easily. The single wiring harness connector comes off with a squeeze. At this point you can take the panel out of the freezer and change the motor and fan on a more convenient work surface. To access the fan bracket screws the plastic duct piece must be removed from the front of the panel. Be careful not to break the fragile plastic tabs on this piece. Remove the brackets holding the fan motor and replace the motor. Be careful not to lose the rubber bushings supporting the fan motor. Next time I will order those too. Reassembly is the reverse. We now have a quiet freezer. Read More... 8 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers
