Robert A Catonsville , MD August 17, 2017 Appliance: General Electric Gas Range CGS980SEM2SS During normal oven use and especially when baking the control panel will stop responding on our ge cafe range during this time no buttons work except the clear/off which only beeps The replacement part was: CONTROL OVEN ERC3HP Part Number:WB27K10378 It looks like this superseded the original part, so maybe the mfg knew about this issue? I could not find disassembly instructions so just went straight into it. Here's the steps from memory: 1) Shut off breaker for stove and confirm that panel lights go off 2) Pull range away from wall about 12" 3) Shut off gas feed to stove 4) From the back of the range, remove the two hex washer head screw holding the in place 5) Remove vent 6) Remove the two hex washer head screws retaining the top of the oven 7) lift off each of the grates from oven top 8) remove the 4 torx screws along top front edge of range 9) remove each of the burner elements 10) remove the 5 white ignition pins from each element. These are just held in place by friction, so simply pull straight up to expose ignition wires 11) disconnect ignition wires 12) remove the three torx screws holding the bracket for the gas nozzle for each element. I read in another post to spray these with WD40 to help with extraction. This seems like a good idea since before I read this one of the screws sheared off with very little torque applied 13) once all the gas nozzle brackets are free and the ignition wire are to, the top of the range can be lifted off 14) remove the heat shield from the front of the oven, retained by 2 hx washer heads 15) STOP I recommend taking detailed pictures of the wires and connectors feeding into the control board. There are quite a few and I assume there are significant consequences to mixing these up when reconnecting. 16) once all connections are carefully documented, pull the wires from the old control board 17) remove the 4 torx screws retaining the control board. a long thin set of torx keys would be best here since there is very little room to work 18) remove the board. this is pretty tight, but it was able to come out. 19) replace the board and reassemble by reversing steps. 20) return oven and test all functions! We have used the range for a week or so and my wife has done a lot of baking without issue. Although the original problem was pretty intermittent, it seems like this has been resolved. Originally I had also bought a GLASS/TOUCH BOARD ASM Part Number:WB27K10311 thinking that I might have to replace both parts, but so far that has NOT been necessary so I plan to return if all continues to work well. Hope this is helpful and best of luck! Read More... 2 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers
Vernon W Sammamish , WA July 12, 2015 Appliance: Whirlpool Electric Dryer GEW9200LL1 Control touch pad ceased to work control board did not fail Ordered both the touch pad assembly and the controller board. Disassembled the GE Café Gas stove. Removed fried touch pad. temporary plugged in new glass touch pad. Restored electrical power. Observed that new touch pad was functioning correctly thus validating that the existing controller board did not need replacement. Re-assembled stove. All good!
