Russell S West Jordan , UT May 11, 2015 Broken handle There are four screws that hold the handle in place, my handle was down to one. I had to pry off the inner door cover. I used butter knives, but a thin screwdriver should work as well. Start on the outside edge (away from the hinge) near, but not in, the upper or lower corner. Slip the knife in between the inner door cover and the outer door shell, gently pry loose, working around the cover. It isn't necessary to remove it entirely, but I did so that I could clean it. This exposes two of the screws that will hold the handle to the metal door frame. Loosen and remove these screws (if they aren't already dangling like mine were.) You need to remove the outer door shell next. Be very careful as this holds the glass in place as well. If you look around the metal door frame, you can spot the plastic fingers that hold the front shell in place. Gently use your fingers to push up and out on these fingers to loosen the front shell. You only need to loosen the shell enough to expose the handle screws that secure the handle to the shell. Remove these screws. You are now ready to install the new handle by reversing this process. One note: The handle helps hold tension against the front glass. You may need to exert some pressure on the end of the shell away from the hinge to "stretch" the shell back into position to hold the glass. If the handle won't insert properly, this may be the cause. Read More... 16 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: Less than 15 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
