Description

The Start Capacitor is an OEM part for GE washing machines. It is comprised of a bracket and capacitor, which work together in the motor control circuit to start and run the drive motor. The capacitor provides a phase shift that allows for smoother operation of the electric motor.

Symptoms of a bad Start Capacitor include:

• The washer fails to agitate or spin clothes
• An electric burning smell coming from the motor or control board  
• The drive motor makes buzzing or humming noises during the operation

Causes of failure can be normal component degradation over time. Exposure to moisture, physical damage, or operating the machine with an unbalanced load can also stress the capacitor prematurely.
