The rear tub support rods were more difficult to reach and install (as you can imagine) but I was able to complete the task. The lid lock was much easier to replace, just remove 2 screws. Dion H Ventura , CA February 05, 2021 Appliance: General Electric General Electric GTUP240GM5WW Washing tub wouldn't spin without going out of balance even when empty Discovered that one of the rear tub support rods (which are different than the front support rods), had permanently compressed the internal spring, requiring replacement. I also replaced the plastic rod support socket to be sure that all the components would be updated. Removing the front panel allowed me to also remove the top lid panel, enabling access to the rear rod without completely disconnecting the machine & accessing the rear panel. Be aware that the internal sheet metal has sharp edges everywhere and my hands suffered half a dozen small cuts in the repair process. You will also want something to prop up & support the washing tub during the repair to allow you to remove/replace the rod more easily. Read More...
