John N Southlake , TX February 03, 2018 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator PSH25PSWCSS Fresh food side temp display says 37 degrees but inside ff side measures over 40 degrees. This fridge has had a problem of ice building up around evaporator coil in fresh food side. Wife (she HATES this thing) says it's done this from day one; 10 years. GE guy says all these models do this and there's no fix for it, so we have clean out the ice periodically... Like the 1940s pre auto defrost. Now with the issue of FF side temp too highi assumed the ice had built up around FF evaporator coil preventing proper cooling, but AppliancePartsPros.com suggested the FF temp thermistor may be at fault. It's cheap and their video showed a super easy repair, so I decided to give that a try vs buying a new $2500 fridge to satisfy wife. After removing the thermistor I flung ice build up in the fridge wall cavity holding the thermistor. Thinking that since the ice is 32 degrees, it's close proximity to the temperature sensor would make the control system think the FF side was way colder than it really is; 37 vs 43 actual. I removed the ice and filled the cavity with some packing foam to hopefully prevent ice build up in that area and reinstalled the old thermistor. Fridge is working "ok" now; 3 degree difference in display vs actual. I turned the temp setting down to 34 the get FF side to 37, but wife doesn't understand that...just happy fridge feels cold to her. When she's not around for an hour or so I think I'll put in the new thermistor in effort to match the display to actual temp since it's super easy to do. Thanks Appliance Parts Pros for some super customer service. I'm a customer for life. Robert B Morgantown , WV October 19, 2014 Ge side by side psc25 series ff section was not cooling well (42 degrees best it could do) Common theme on the blogs was thermistors and or defrost heater/thermostat. Ran self-diagnostics which turned on defrost heater which was fine. All five thermistors indicated ok on diagnostic also, but I read more than one time "replace the thermistors no matter what if your FF section isn't cooling". So I ordered all five thermistors and defrost limiter thermostat. Received all in 48 hours (great shipping service), took me about three hours to replace all thermistors and thermostat just as excellent how-to video indicated. Set to factory presets of 0 and 37 degrees. Next morning came downstairs, actual temperature: 0 and 37 degrees! Lowered FF section to 35 (wife's preference), reefer went right down to 35 and has stayed there since. Also had the common melting ice problem in ice maker which appears to be resolved by this repair. An hour or two of diagnostics, few hours to repair, 60 bucks and it's performing better than ever. Very pleased with the results. Read More... 30 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 2+ hours Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers
Willy P Victorville , CA October 01, 2014 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator PSHF6YGXBDBB Fresh food evaporator frozen loss of refrigerator cooling freezer operates normal The refrigerator evaporator fan would begin to make noise from hitting ice build up, then the temperature would rise to around 50 degrees and the fan would stop. Replaced the fresh food evaporator temperature sensor, which is housed in a block attached to the coils, note this part is not shown on the parts diagram. Thawed ice, disassembled, cut out the old sensor and spliced in a new sensor using waterproof butt splices. One week in and still working good, no ice build up and temps are as set. Steven G Central Valley , NY July 11, 2017 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator PSS26PSTASS Refrigerator section was forming ice in the refrigerator water was freezing fan was constantly running. My GE Profile Model PSS26PSTASS freezes food in the food section. The sensor was shot - so the fan on the bottom of the fridge would constantly run - ice was forming in the fridge and my water filter was freezing. I went away for a few days and it was shattered from freezing up. Sensor is located behind the oval vent on the left wall of the fridge. between the 2nd and 3rd shelf. Unplug fridge - Pop off the white cover with a screwdriver - pull out the wires, clip the wires & strip them. Remove the foil cover from the back of the sensor, and pull out the old sensor. Replace the sensor and replace foil cover (I bought a new one). splice the new and old wires together using small blue wire nuts (you can fill them with silicone if you want to prevent moisture). stuff the wires back into the hole and replace the cover with the new sensor in it.
