How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3423161 / WR02X10668 Temperature Sensor Seal

Common theme on the blogs was thermistors and or defrost heater/thermostat. Ran self-diagnostics which turned on defrost heater which was fine. All five thermistors indicated ok on diagnostic also, but I read more than one time "replace the thermistors no matter what if your FF section isn't cooling". So I ordered all five thermistors and defrost limiter thermostat. Received all in 48 hours (great shipping service), took me about three hours to replace all thermistors and thermostat just as excellent how-to video indicated. Set to factory presets of 0 and 37 degrees. Next morning came downstairs, actual temperature: 0 and 37 degrees! Lowered FF section to 35 (wife's preference), reefer went right down to 35 and has stayed there since. Also had the common melting ice problem in ice maker which appears to be resolved by this repair. An hour or two of diagnostics, few hours to repair, 60 bucks and it's performing better than ever. Very pleased with the results. 

The refrigerator evaporator fan would begin to make noise from hitting ice build up, then the temperature would rise to around 50 degrees and the fan would stop. Replaced the fresh food evaporator temperature sensor, which is housed in a block attached to the coils, note this part is not shown on the parts diagram. Thawed ice, disassembled, cut out the old sensor and spliced in a new sensor using waterproof butt splices. One week in and still working good, no ice build up and temps are as set. 

My GE Profile Model PSS26PSTASS freezes food in the food section. The sensor was shot - so the fan on the bottom of the fridge would constantly run - ice was forming in the fridge and my water filter was freezing. I went away for a few days and it was shattered from freezing up. Sensor is located behind the oval vent on the left wall of the fridge. between the 2nd and 3rd shelf. Unplug fridge - Pop off the white cover with a screwdriver - pull out the wires, clip the wires & strip them. Remove the foil cover from the back of the sensor, and pull out the old sensor. Replace the sensor and replace foil cover (I bought a new one). splice the new and old wires together using small blue wire nuts (you can fill them with silicone if you want to prevent moisture). stuff the wires back into the hole and replace the cover with the new sensor in it. 

I watched the videos and ordered the parts to fix the problem. Then I installed them and so far everything seems to work ok. It's only been a few days so we'll see if I got it right. 

Replaced fan, thermistor, and temp sensors! 

Going to replace the temperature sensor on the fresh food evaporator, note to others. This part is not on the GE parts drawing. Need to sell the wire splices as well. 

Replaced 3 temp sensors and a defrost temp sensor. 

I had changed the defrost heater and evaporator fan two years ago which worked great. Now fridge and freezer would just get too warm randomly and I noticed the evaporator fan was not running but compressor was running. Did some tests on the mainboard and saw the Evap fan and defrost heater and all thermistors were testing fine. So I figured its probably the mainboard!!! Plug and play swap and the fridge is working great so far. 

Replaced water tank and temperature sensor in freezer.
