Susan L Rochester , NY May 18, 2015 Appliance: General Electric Gas Range JGB870SET1SS Ge gas range double oven lower oven would not ignite Removed bottom flame cover in lower oven to find the ignitor was actually broken into pieces. We assume it exploded because the bottom side of the cover had a hole blown in it and had to be hammered flat. Before it totally stopped working we had experienced a number of instances where the GFI kicked out when the oven was preheating. Order the GE specific replacement part from Appliance Parts Pros which arrived promptly. The replacement was fairly simple...being careful not to damage the new ignitor. The oven is back in business!! Thank you! Read More... 11 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
Tobias N Alexandria , VA January 07, 2019 Igniter glowbar failed again! Ordered the part and replaced it. For the third time since we acquired the range. This is a design flaw. At least this time the part came in one piece! The last time I had to do this, it took four tries to deliver a part that wasn't broken. The work to replace this is not difficult - you pull out your range, unplug it, and remove just four 1/4-in hex screws to get the small rear panel off, exposing the connector. Disconnect it and straighten the wire so it can be pulled through the interior of the oven. If you want, clip off the plastic snap connector - this will make it easier to pull it through the hole. Then from inside the oven, you remove the shelves and the oven floor (just a couple of screws), exposing the broken glowbar. (This is somewhat awkward because of the position you are in bent down and on your knees. If your oven is a convection model, it is a little more difficult because the convection fan projects into the oven cavity, making a tight fit when you remove and later replace the oven floor. The floor will scrape against the back as you remove it and again when you put it back in place. Two more 1/4 hex screws are all that hold the glowbar in place. Pull out the old one and then feed the new wire and connector through the holes and screw down the new glowbar BEING VERY CAREFUL not to to break or damage this strange, brittle and delicate device. Connect the wire, close the panel, put everything back as you found it and you're done. Bobby R New Cordell , OK January 06, 2020 Appliance: General Electric Gas Range CGS990SET4SS Lower oven no heat I replaced the melted deflector plate and the damaged igniter glowbar. The parts came in a timely manner and fixed the problem. The original deflector plate was poorly designed and the igniter glowbar melted it thus also ruining the glowbar. New deflector plate had a cutout over the glowbar so this should not happen again.
