Sometimes known as a recoil starter, the rewind starter is what drives the ability to start combustion in a small engine. It is used in lawn and garden equipment like lawnmowers and snowblowers. When the recoil starter is engaged, the engine can be cranked by hand to reach high enough speeds to start all of the mower's operating systems to trim the lawn. The recoil starter is an important component that the mower will not start without.Wear and tear can cause a recoil starter to fail. If the pull cord on a machine has gone slack, it's likely that this is the problem. It will need to be replaced before the machine can be used. Remove the recoil housing cap, untie the rope, and re-tension the spring. Next, attach the cap and reinstall the rope.
