Description

The drive control cable is a feature of self-propelled walk-behind mowers that engage the gears of the propulsion mechanism. This cable is necessary to allow users to determine when they want to engage the self-propulsion mechanism and when they either want to allow the machine to idle or they wish to push it when mowing in small, tight areas where the self-propelling mechanism is not useful. Occasionally, as with all such mechanisms, the cable may break and it will become necessary to replace the drive control cable. In order to replace the cable, first disconnect the spark plug boot and drain the gasoline, since it's necessary to raise and lower the engine. If it's necessary to place the mower on its side, remember to keep the air filter up so oil does not drain into it. Release the drive cable from the housing that it shares with the engine engagement cable. Remove the drive gear housing on the bottom and the top of the cutting deck. Use needle nose pliers to remove the drive cable. Reverse the process to attach and engage the new drive control cable. This replacement cable is a genuine OEM part, manufactured to be identical to the original cable specifications. This cable is compatible with Craftsman and Husqvarna engines.
