The Thermistor is an OEM part for Whirlpool Ice Machines. It monitors the temperature within the ice machine and sends readings to the control board to regulate the ice-making process.
Over time, the thermistor can become faulty due to electrical issues, normal wear and tear, or exposure to moisture. If the thermistor fails, it can lead to improper ice production or temperature regulation.
Symptoms of a bad ice machine thermistor include:
- Inconsistent ice production
- Ice machine not making ice at all
- Ice cubes that are too large or too small
- The ice machine running continuously or not cycling properly
This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

The Ice Thermistor Assembly is the temperature sensor your refrigerator uses to monitor the ice maker/ice compartment. Accurate readings help the control time harvests and maintain proper ice room temperature, restoring consistent ice production when the sensor fails. What it does
- Senses temperature at the ice maker/ice compartment and reports to the control
- Helps the control time ice harvests and, on some models, manage ice box airflow
- Can address issues like no ice, intermittent/slow ice production, or ice clumping/melting
- Clear a thermistor-related fault noted in service diagnostics
What's included
- One ice thermistor assembly
Install notes
- Disconnect power before servicing
- Access the ice maker/ice compartment; note original sensor placement and wire routing
- Transfer any clips/insulators if present, connect the new harness, and secure the sensor in the same location
- Restore power and run the unit's ice maker/service test (if available) to operation

The only part that was really broken was the wiring harness. Two of the wires had corroded from the sockets and there was no other way than to replace the entire harness. Its a bit tricky to feed...

This thermistor senses the temperature inside the refrigerator bin/drawer and provides the control board with the signal it needs to regulate cooling. Replacing a bad thermistor restores accurate temperature readings and more consistent cooling. What it does:
- Measures bin/drawer temperature and sends a voltage/ohm signal to the control board.
- Helps the refrigerator maintain set temperatures by enabling proper compressor/fan control.
- Common symptoms of a failing thermistor: incorrect bin temps, inconsistent cooling, or temperature-related error codes.
- Use when diagnostics point to a faulty temperature sensor or when the thermistor is damaged.
What's included: One thermistor (bin) Install notes:
- Always disconnect power to the appliance before starting any repair.
- Handle the sensor and wiring gently; avoid contaminating or bending the sensing tip.
- Reconnect using the original connector and route the harness the same way to prevent pinching.
