This is a magneto armature, also known as an ignition coil. It consists of a large rubber housing with an aluminum mounting armature and an electrical lead cable. An ignition coil is an electronic part that converts low-voltage power from an engine flywheel to high-voltage power for a spark plug. When the ignition coil has failed, the motor will not start. Early signs of failure include motor stalling, especially at lower speeds. These can also be symptoms of a dirty carburetor, so that should also be checked. To test an ignition coil, disconnect it from everything except the spark plug, then disconnect the spark plug boot. Insert a multimeter inside the boot, with the other contact on the metal coil housing. If it reads between 2,500 and 5,000 ohms, the ignition coil is working. If it shows an infinity or 1, the coil has failed. This is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer, and it is sold individually. Designed for Briggs & Stratton motors, it has also been used on Toro machines and replaces older part numbers 492341, 495859, and 491312.

This genuine OEM replacement part is a spark plug terminal for a wide variety of small combustion engines. In a combustion engine, the spark plug generates a small electrical charge that creates enough power to start up the ignition and engage combustion. The plug connects to the ignition through the terminal. Spark plugs generate and then pass a small electrical current through to the ignition. Usually, the main issue with spark plugs is that this current hyper-extends and ends up frying the spark plug. However, if the terminal is damaged, the charge will not pass into the ignitor, and the engine will not turn. If the spark plug can carry a charge but the engine still won't turn, it's likely the terminal that needs replacing. This is an easy repair because the terminal should just snap on and off. If stuck, a pair of needle-nose pliers should make it easier. This high-quality replacement part is compatible with engines from Murray, Toro, Lawn Boy, and Briggs & Stratton. It is sourced from the original manufacturer and ships individually.
