Lane C Pleasant Garden , NC February 24, 2015 Appliance: LG Washer WM2688HNMA The washer sounded like a jet plane when it went through the spin cycle very loud noise I originally thought the washer had a bad bearing, but once I got it disassembled it the spider arms were broken. This required the replacement of the tub assembly. While replacing the tub I replaced all of the water bellows. The parts came quickly, the live chat and videos were very helpful. This washer has to be completely disassembled to replace the drum, so mark all the screw locations, tag and bag everything and take lots of pics. It was a very rewarding project and hundreds of dollars cheaper than a service call Read More... 14 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers, Socket Set

Trevor W Austin , TX January 11, 2016 Appliance: LG Washer WM2277HW My 2003 lg wm2277hw washer developed a burning rubber smell and was running loud on spin cycle I had to replace the bearing seals a second time in three years. When I got the tub disconnected from the housing with too much banging required I saw that the spider assembly had corroded badly and only one arm was fully affixed after two arms had cracked. It's unclear how many were fully cracked before all the banging but I expect at least one was cracked and let to the bearings having a rough time. It's impressive that the spider arm lasted 12 years as there is a stainless to aluminum (?) connection that I'm confident breeds a minimal electrical charge that sets up the corrosion. I'm guessing some rubber would have helped that. Either way, I would rate this fix as 4 hours if you know what you are doing and don't spend too much time cleaning along the way. The YouTube videos make it very doable for a handyman but it is going to go quickly for anyone investing the time to do it right. Read More...
