The thermal relief valve protects the pump from the potential heat buildup that can occur during recirculation or when in the bypass mode. It opens once temperatures reach 140 degrees and resets automatically when the excess heat is eliminated. Should the machine run too long without releasing water, it can damage the pump. If the pressure washer does not automatically release pressurized air, it is likely a defective or broken thermal relief valve that will need to be replaced to reduce risks of damage to the machine. It is an easy fix that requires little more than an appropriately sized wrench. Slide the rubber cap and remove the valve. Then replace it and tighten it accordingly, completing the repair. This OEM thermal relief valve is for Craftsman and Briggs & Stratton pressure washers. This part ships individually and is made of durable materials.
