The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for GE gas ranges. It is responsible for generating electric sparks to ignite the gas burners on the cooktop. The spark module produces consecutive sparks when a surface burner knob is turned on, which ignite the gas mixture and allows the burner flame to ignite safely and consistently.
Causes of a bad spark module can include faulty electrodes, worn internal components that hamper sparking, or damage due to moisture intrusion or power surges over time.
Symptoms of a bad spark module include:
- Burners that will not ignite or only intermittently ignite
- Flashback or burning above the burner head
- The smell of gas when turning burners on
This GE replacement part is also compatible with models from Hotpoint, RCA, and certain Kenmore gas ranges.

GE Gas Cooktop Wouldn't Light Michael S. • Owasso , OK • March 17, 2014
My problem was intermittent spark and then no spark. My first fix was to give my wife one of those long BBQ grill lighters but after about a week she told me to "FIX IT". After researching the problem on the internet I determined it was likely one of three things: IGNITERS (not likely), SWITCHES (possible), or SPARK MODULE (most likely). I ordered the Spark Module on Sunday night and it arrived on Tuesday. I was totally surprised by the speed of delivery. Took about 30 minutes to install and...

This small metal clip secures the surface burner spark electrode to its bracket or burner base, holding the tip at the proper gap for reliable ignition. Replace a missing, bent, or corroded clip to help restore consistent sparking.
- Holds the surface burner spark electrode firmly in position near the burner head
- Maintains correct alignment and gap so the igniter can spark to the burner
- Can help with delayed ignition, intermittent sparking, or a burner that won't light
- Typical signs include a loose/wobbly electrode, visible damage, or a missing clip
What's included: 1 mounting clip Install notes:
- Disconnect power and shut off gas before servicing
- Lift the cooktop or remove burner components to access the electrode; note clip orientation
- Transfer the electrode into the new clip and seat the clip securely in its bracket or base
- Avoid stressing the electrode's ceramic insulator; verify the tip is aimed at the burner rim and test ignition

The front door glass of my ge xl44 gas range was shattered by a flying crockpot Kurt N. • South Williamsport , PA • May 10, 2017
I lifted up the door and removed it.
Next, I laid out newspaper on the floor.
I placed the door on the newspaper upside down.
With my socket driver, I removed the bottom door trim.
I then used a pocket knife to remove the remaining glass in the top groove.
I then slid in the new glass and reinstalled the trim.
It took 30 minutes to replace the glass and clean up the glass
fragments from the previous door glass.
I looked up a video on how to replace it Utube.
