Removed OTR microwave. Checked the thermostat switches while power was applied with a DVM. Noticed that when a certain set of wires was moved the slightest bit the microwave would power up. Traced the wires to the thermostat switch for the cavity. Noticed that where one (of two) Faston terminals was crimped to the thermostat switch was black. (should be copper colored). That is a sure sign of arcing from a loose connection. Since the specification for the switch was to trip at 248F degrees...

Once I figured out what this was, I saw a video on replacing it. Was super easy and I found the parts on Appliance Parts Pros. Ordered it and got it in a few days. Popped it in and it was good to go. After my wife accidentally melted the cover, I thought I was going to have to trash it and get a new one. Saved myself hundreds of dollars by doing a little research. Unplugged the microwave & took needle nose pliers to gently twist the metal part out of the socket after removing the glass cover for the light. Gently twisted the new bulb into the socket.
