Liked hint of using locking pliers to grab spring.
I hope I would have thought of that myself, but maybe not before busting a knuckle.
Washer works perfectly now, better than when it was new.
Samsung washer door lock did not always work since new.

Googled problem and found that there were two possible reasons for door leak, the rubber seal inside the door (door diaphragm). Replaced that first with help of the you tube videos and it was better but still leaked, then purchased the door hinge as this could be the only other problem and my little boy liked to "hang" on the door and it was a little loose and didn't close well. I disassembled the washer and found the problem to be a broken spider. I ordered a new spider and bolts, a new tub seal, and a new bearing seal from AppliancePartsPros.com and replaced those parts for less than $200.00. A repair man would have cost at least half of that without any work being done. The washer is 10 yrs. old and I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it. The washer works fine now.
