The Spark Module is an OEM part Bosch ranges and cooktops. This electronic part generates the high-voltage spark needed to reliably ignite the gas burners with the push of a button.

Causes can be issues like component failure over the thousands of ignitions it facilitates. Water ingress could also potentially cause problems.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Unreliable or intermittent burner ignition requiring multiple ignition button presses
  • One or more burners that will not ignite at all
  • Occasionally flashing or error codes relating to ignition issues

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Bosch Spark Module (Part Number: OEM17074455)

Hello Pat, This sounds like the spark module took a hit. The spark module is the part that kicks up the voltage to jump the ignitor gap to ignite the gas. The best way to test to see if the spark module requires replacement is to open the top to gain access to the spark module and swap the ignitor wires to the opposite terminals. Now this is the output. Do not cross the wires for the 120Vac input. You need to also mark the wires before swapping them so they can be returned to the original positions. If the spark module is at fault, the other ignitors will now be sparking. If the same ones spark, the module is not the issue, but you will have a wiring or grounding issue. From the humming sound you described, I'll really be surprized if the issue isn't the spark module.

Hello Leo, First off, check all of your grounds. Any spills around a ground can cause an issue. Next, I would check the start switches. If you find no issues with these things, order the spark module.

Gint for Model Number PRG366 Thermador

My range top originally sparked randomly at all times of the day and night, especially when the oven was on. I replaced the spark module and the left rear ignitor. While it appears the random sparking at odd times is gone, a hot oven still starts the sparking on the range top. The sparking usually stops after about 15 seconds, but occasionally I need to cycle the circuit breaker to turn off the sparking. Where else do I need to look? What else might need to be replaced?

Hi Gint. It sounds like you have the positive wire and the negative wire reversed on the spark module when you reinstalled it. Check the module with a magnifying glass for a positive mark and a negative (-) mark. The white goes on the negative terminal (or neutral), the black wire goes to the positive. If this is OK, then the same goes with the house outlet. The outlet terminals can be reversed and not polarity correct. The narrower terminal will be the black wire attached to the brass screw. The white wire should be attached to the silver color screw (neutral at the wide female terminal). This should stop the sparking. Let us know how we can assist. you further. Thank You.

Hi Vance. Make sure all burner caps have a "clean" spark path for the igniter to ground to. Use a small wire brush to clean contact points of the cap. The igniter itself need to ohm close to 0- .1 ohms , closed. Part # is 00189324. You need to gain access to the burner switches and check all connections. There is a wire harness you can get also, part # is 00189976. Burner wires carry 120 vac so make sure of your safety and remove power. Make sure all your orifices are not clogged. The burner switches are part # 00428049. Finally the spark module is part # 00753257. Thank You.

Hello Question. Make sure the ignitors are clean and burners are clean. If so, you will need to replace the spark module 00636439. Hope this helps.

Hi Diana. Try unplugging the 120vac plug and plug it in upside down. If the plug is not polorized correctly then it will spark uncontrollably. The L-1 (smaller slot -blk wire) of the receptacle has to be positive voltage. The neutral (lg. slot -white wire) of the receptacle has to be negative. If that is not the issue, then replace the spark module kit part # is 00753257. Thank you.

Hi Paul. In your Use and Care Guide that came with your oven will explain this under "oven controls". If I understand it correctly, then your range is L.P. If you are asking correctly on how to just adjust the oven burner flame, then remove the thermostat knob. Get a very long thin blade and hold the stem of the shaft. Insert the screwdriver and turn the inner shaft to adjust the oven flame. I hope this helps. Thank you.
