The Potentiometer is an OEM replacement part for Bosch gas range or cooktops. It functions as a three-terminal resistor that adjusts the flow of electric current, which in turn, controls the ignition and temperature of the cooktop. This component is essential for the precise operation and control of the gas burners, ensuring they light up and maintain the desired flame intensity.

Causes of a malfunctioning Potentiometer can be attributed to wear and tear, electrical issues, or damage due to spills and cleaning products. A compromised potentiometer affects the flow of electric current, leading to issues with the ignition and temperature control of the gas burners.

Symptoms of a bad Potentiometer include:

  • The cooktop not lighting or staying lit
  • The ignitor continuously clicking without igniting the burner
  • Inability to adjust the flame intensity or temperature accurately

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Bosch Potentiometer (Part Number: OEM11348934)

Hello Rudy, This sounds more like the gas valve solenoid to me. To test the potentiometer, set the resistance meter to the RX1 scale. Unplug the potentiometer and test from terminals 1 to 5. If it does not read an open circuit (infinity), replace the potentiometer. The issue is more likely the gas solenoid. To test in accordance with the manufacturers' instruction, turn the gas off to the range. Remove the solenoid from the range and disconnect the wires. Set the ohmmeter to the RX10 scale. Testing between the terminals the meter should read 1760O. If it reads anything different, replace the gas solenoid.

Hello Sal. You will need to check and see if the ignitor is bad or the spark module. If the igniter is cracked, broke, dirty, or wet, it will cause the burner not to spark. If it is good, replace the spark module on the unit, if the potentiometer 00422748 is new. Hope this helps.
