Steve November 29, 2017 for Model Number GFSF6KKYBBB GE French Door Fridge is roughly 7 years old. Just recently (3x in past 4 weeks), the lower fresh food bin the fridge gets a sheet of ice under it, you can see ice build up in the back of the fridge, it stops producing ice and stops cooling. I've been told that its likely the defrost thermostat / sensor / heater. Is there any way to determine which it is without buying all 3?
1 Answer Steve, The best option would be to purchase a multi meter TJMA-DM1 and test the resistances and circuitry of the heater, thermostat, and sensor. it will be less expensive in the long run, and you'll have a "tool" to use around the house or car, etc. You'll also want to check a couple of other things once you're inside the evaporator cover. After you have determined what component you need, also check to make sure the WR51X10105 defrost drain clip is attached to the bottom of the heater and is positioned in the defrost drain opening, and check to make sure the drain tube inside the wall isn't clogged with debris( hot water and a turkey baster works pretty well just be ready to clean up the water). Then check and make sure all the door gaskets are sealing against the front flange of the openings, especially along the bottom of the doors. Read More...
Patrick M November 04, 2017 for Model Number Pfss6pkwass The compressor will not start and the fridge and freezer will not cool. I have checked the condenser fan, it’s running. The compressor relay has continuity and checks out fine. The temperature indicated on the display matches the temperature using an infrared gun. This leads me to believe that the faulty part is the main board. If the the display temperature matches the actual temp should I suspect the thermostat?
1 Answer Patrick, You will want to check to see if there is 120 vac getting to the overload relay. If there is then the relay will most likely be the issue with the unit. Read More...
Robert M May 28, 2017 for Model Number GSS22WGPEWW Refrigerator runs non stop freezing everything in fresh food side regardless of thermostat setting. Freezer is fine
2 Answers Robert, The auto damper assembly WR09X10050 / WR09X10050 DAMPER & GASKET ASSY is the more likely problem. It's probably "stuck" open, or the switch has failed. Fortunately, the assembly includes the refrigerator thermistor, so you'll have everything you need to repair the refrigerator. Read More...
Robert M May 28, 2017 for Model Number GSS22WGPEWW Refrigerator runs non stop freezing everything in fresh food side regardless of thermostat setting. Freezer is fine
2 Answers Robert, You will want to test the temperature sensor WR23X10582 in the refrigerator compartment. The resistance at room temp should be 5K ohms. If the resistance is not correct then the sensor would need to be replaced. Read More...
Kh May 04, 2017 for Model Number Pfss6pkxbss GE Profile 25.8 French Door Symptoms: - Refrigerator getting cold. - Freezer evaporator coil not getting cold. - Fans in freezer and Compressor are running non-stop. - Checked that freezer thermostat has continuity. - Drains to freezer and fridge are clear. - A week ago noticed freezer wasn't fully freezing. Now not getting cold at tall. BTW - When I took the panel off to check the drain tubes I found a small red plastic mushroom shaped plastic piece in the tray (bottom right). Do you know where this came from?
1 Answer KH, Based on the information and symptoms of the unit this issue would most likely be a sealed system issue in which there is either a restriction or a leak of refrigerant in the sealed system. You would want to contact a service technician for this type of issue. Read More...
Jim April 06, 2016 for Model Number GE Profile PFSS9PKYASS The fresh food section works fine, but the freezer does not cool at all. Checked the coils on back wall of freezer, and they are not frozen over. Fans inside freezer don't run, and coil doesn't seem to cool at all. Where do I go from here?
Bill October 12, 2015 for Model Number GFSF6KKXBBB GE Profile Model GFSF6KKXBBB. Fresh food fan and upper right corner under the evaporator cover are freezing up about every two weeks. There is no ice near the drain. Some water accumulates under the fresh food drawers. I measured the evaporator thermistor in in 68 deg room and it read 12.2Kohms. I expect about half that. Also, how important is the condition of the styrofoam around the evaporator cover? Mine has some small chunks missing and is loosely held together with masking tape. Could this contribute to the freezing up?
1 Answer Hello Bill. It sounds like the sealed system is failing and will need to be repaired on the unit. You will need an HVAC tech to repair the unit. Read More...
Kay April 03, 2015 for Model Number GFSL6KKXALS I had a defrost problem which caused ice build up. This has been fixed now the freezer is getting cold (the digital panel indicates -2) but it is not freezing the food. The icemaker is also not working. The fans in the freezer are both operating the refrigerator is getting cold and the compressor is working. Could the temperture sensor be not reading correctly?
1 Answer Hello Kay, The sensors could be out of tolerance or the control could have an issue. I would first pull the back wall out to observe the frost pattern. If there is an iceball where the Freon line enter the evaporator compartment, there has been a Freon loss. If the frost does not fully cover the coils and the bottom half is clear with no frost, you may have a sealed system restriction. Another symptom of a sealed system restriction is that the compressor will be almost too hot to hold your hand to. Another thing to check is the condenser coils to see if they need to be cleaned and make sure the condenser fan motor WR60X10256 is running full speed. Read More...
Richard November 22, 2014 for Model Number PFSS9PKYASS The fresh food section is freezing food , have adjusted the temp. What could be causing this?
1 Answer Richard, You will want to test the temperature sensors for the unit to make sure that they are within specifications. The resistances should be as follows. At room temp of 77 degrees the resistance would be 5K ohms, at 37 degrees 14.4K ohms and at 0 degrees 42.2K ohms. Read More...
Jordon July 18, 2014 for Model Number PFSS6PKXASS The evaporator drain line freezes up, I have tested the heating coil and is has resistance as does the thermostat, at least I think it is the thermostat, but I do not know how to test the ASM temp sensor. Is there a test for this?
1 Answer Jordan, The defrost drain freezing up would indicate that the drain is clogged up in which you will need to clear the ice and flush the drain with hot water. Read More...
