Joseph January 25, 2020 for Model Number GTD42GASJ2WW Dryer heats and works fine but smells like gas outside at vent. Have not taken it apart yet wondering what to look for?thanks.
1 Answer Joseph, If the odor is a gasoline or kerosene odor, this would be due to a petroleum-based product (paint, wax, cleaning solvent, etc.) being used inside the home. It will dissipate with time, and opening the doors and or windows will help. If the odor is a Natural gas or LP gas odor, you would want to check, the gas supply line for loose connections or cracks then check, but preferably replace the gas valve WE03X23918 Valve and Pipe Assm. Steve July 15, 2018 for Model Number GTD45GASJ0WS Hi, my dryer wasn't heating and the timer wouldn't count down. Replaced the timer and had the same issue. Replaced Hi-Limit, Safety, and Control inlet thermostats. Heated for a few minutes then stopped for the rest of the cycle. Timer works now but not heating again. When it worked for the few minutes, I saw the igniter flame make the igniter glow for about 10 seconds, then the igniter went out, leaving the flame on for awhile, then go out. Now the igniter glows for about 10 seconds then shuts off for about 30 seconds then starts again. Any thoughts? Thank you for your time, I greatly appreciate it! Respectfully, S. Martin
1 Answer Steve, Check the venting of the unit to make sure that it is clean and has no obstructions and if the vent is clear then check for bad gas coils on the unit. Read More...
Tom November 04, 2016 for Model Number gtd42gasj1ww I purchased propane conversion kit we25x217 is this correct ?
1 Answer Tom, No, the [WE25X217] is not the correct conversion kit for the model number you supplied. The correct part to order, per the manufacturer is WE03X23918 / WE03X23918. The kit consists of an LP gas valve and pipe assembly. The part is in stock and available at this time. Thanks, Read More...
Ken August 23, 2015 for Model Number GE DPXQ473GT3WW Dryer After some more investigation I can get the dryer to fire up-igniter glows for a few seconds and then gas flame starts. It only runs for 11-12 seconds and then the flame goes out. After 30-45 seconds the cycle starts over. Should the flame stay on longer? If so my coils are probably bad or is it normal for the heat to only cycle for 11 seconds at a time? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Ken, If the coils 279834 do not correct this issue, the gas valve WE14X215 will be the issue. Read More...
Ken L. August 23, 2015 for Model Number GEW9200LW0 Unit stopped heating. Have it apart and with continuity checks can find nothing open although I have no idea how many ohms everything should read. Am leaning towards the problem being the igniter assembly. If I run the unit as it is now with drum out should the igniter glow before the coils allow gas to flow? It doesn't now when I try to run it but wondering if something else might be inhibiting the igniter since it is apart like it is. Thanks
1 Answer Hello Ken, The ignitor should glow and the gas valve will ignite with the drum out. As an important note you do not want to run it but about 10 seconds like this when it does operate normally. I would suspect the ignitor 279311 if there is 120Vac to it when energized. It should glow almost white hot in order for enough current flow to be present to open the gas valve, (3.2 to 3.6 amps). As another note, the model number you provided is for an electric model. 1 Answer Hello Karen. You will need to test the thermostats and the flame sensor and make sure they are good. They should read closed for continuity. Also, check the igniter and make sure it is getting hot enough to light the gas. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter for the testing procedures. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Robert August 04, 2012 for Model Number DRSR495GG6WW I replaced a bad igniter in my gas dryer and noticed that the end of the burner assembly had some melted portion on the end where the gas ignites. Do I need to replace the burner assembly?
1 Answer Hello Robert. If the burner is melted, you need to relpace the burner WE14M104. Read More...
Del D. July 08, 2011 for Model Number DPSR473GWOWW Hey guys still got no fire in the hole. I got the new Igniter today, measured resistance before I put it in the dryer it measured almost the same as the old one around 250 ohms some where along the way someone from your store told me it should be appx. 36 ohms. A friend came over that works on appliances & said the new Igniter was cracked. Can I get another one? (These cracks are really hard to see.) Is the resistance really critical?
1 Answer Hello Del! The ignitor should read a resistance value of 50-500 ohms. If the part received is cracked, please contact our customer service team at 1-877-477-7278 option 2 for a reshipment. You will need your order number and the appliance model and serial number. Thanks! Read More...
Del D. July 07, 2011 for Model Number DPSR473GWOWW Thanks for explaining how the Igniter works .I probably screwed up the Igniter when I had the burner out on my workbench to convert it to LP gas(propane) I e-mailed a false statement that I removed the control part of the gas valve in the kit is a part that you remove on top of the gas valve I think its called a leak limiter & install a part called a blocker which disables the regulator part of the valve & lets the pressure move up to 11.0 lbs & put in the smaller jet .a simple kit to install but I did not know you should not handle the dark part of the Igniter 36ohms went to 270ohms this should fix my problem when I receive the Igniter Thanks again Del .
Del D. July 05, 2011 for Model Number DPSR473GWOWW Explain igniter has to pull 3.5 amps before the gas valve will stay open .? ( is this part of the safety circuitry ) ?? please explain how this circuit works ? Del . No heat converted to L P gas .
1 Answer Del, You're discussing a gas range ignition system, not a gas dryer system. A dryer ignition system works on heat. Here's the basic operation: The neutral circuit for the gas valve and ignition system is supplied through the motor switch. The power circuit(120 VAC) is supplied through the timer and thermostats to the coils on the gas valve, and then to the igniter and Radiant/flame sensor. All of the components and circuits are "closed" at room temperature. When the dryer is started, and power is supplied to the igniter it will start to glow/heat. When the igniter reaches a temperature of 23 to 2400 degrees F., the radiant/flame sensor circuit opens, the remaining valve coil also opens and gas is released, and ignited. The igniter bar has got to be in the burner flame and needs to have a slight glow to it, during the "burn" in order to maintain the path of least resistance, and hold the gas valve coils open, and an active flame. This hould help, I hope. So you're using LP gas, was the burner assembly properly converted, WE25X217, do you have at least 10 WCI gas pressure at the gas valve, and does the igniter cycle on, and off, without an ignition or flame. Thanks and Good Luck. Read More...
