Nancy, Once you take the screw out the cover should slide behind the wall of the unit. You would need to squeeze where it is hooked in and get it to release then slide it out.

Rich, Based on the information provided, it does sound like the temp control may be the problem but could also be the defrost timer sticking in the defrost if it is happening every 8 to 10 hours. If it happens every time the unit shuts down then the thermostat would be the issue.

Rick, The first thing that you will want to check is to make sure that the unit does not have frost on the rear wall of the freezer compartment. if so then pull the rear cover off and check for continuity on the defrost heater and defrost limiter. If the heater or the defrost limiter do not have continuity then replace the one that does not have continuity. If they both check ok replace the defrost timer. If the defrost checks ok then the temp control would most likely be the issue. It is located behind the light shield where the slide is located in the refrigerator compartment. The defrost timer is also in this area.

Mike, Before you replace the cold control WR09X10016 check and make sure the doors are closing and sealing properly. Remove the front kick plate and the rear cover panel and clean all the dust and debris, from the condenser coil and interior components(unplug the power cord first). Then check the evaporator fan motor [WR60X10008] (listen to it) make sure it is running at a high speed and circulating the air (you should be able to feel or see the frost being blown towards you when you open the freezer door. If all's OK, then replace the cold control WR09X10016.

The freezer is not working since I moved the frig to a new location. The refrigerator side still works fine. I pulled the knobs and cover off the temperature controls in the refrigerator section and I could hear the fan and compressor start to run in the freezer compartment. When I came back several hours later the freezer had stopped working again. I have not been able to make the freezer start running again by moving the cover or levers around again. What could this be? Thanks

Hello Ernie, You may want to pull the light cover off and try to turn the defrost timer WR9X489. It sounds like the timer may be sticking causing the unit to not turn back on after defrost.

My freezer seems to be working, but my fridge is warm. I don't feel any cold air coming in from the freezer/upper duct. I've actually removed the upper damper and checked the return for blockages. The compressor runs and the fan in the freezer is running. I opened the back panel of the freezer, and the level of frost seems normal and it seems to be going thru a normal defrost cycle. Could it be a problem with the temperature control? What does this part actually control? FYI, twice in the past six months the freezer has defrosted to the point where I had water pooling on the floor and things melting, but this isn't happening anymore. The first time cleaning out underneath (compressor area) with a vacuum seemed to fix and the second time it started working again after I bumped it against a wall. Guess I'm the Fonz. Thanks is advance for any help, Mike

Hi Mike. Is the freezer back wall full of frost? This will cause a no cool. At least you verified a couple of issues. If there is frost on the back wall - then you have a defrost issue. The defrost thermostat is part # WR50X122. The defrost heater is part # WR51X10029. The defrost timer is part # WR9X489. Thank you.

Jim for Model Number tfx26zpdabb GE Fridge

The fridge was not defrosting, replaced both the defrost timer and the defrost heater with thermostat. Both were tested electrically bad and we are wondering if we've had some sort of power surge. Now we are having problems with the temperature in both the freezer and the fresh food side, fridge at 60 tdy, freezer 30. I am wondering which part to replace next, this control temp or the brain? Is is possible I have a problem which is causing these parts to burn out? thxs.

Hello Jim. Make sure you got all the ice melted off the coils in the freezer. If not, it can block the air flow causing cooling issues. If it is clear, you could have a bad temperature control WR09X10016. Hope this helps.
