For Ge Washer Agitator Coupler (Part Number: OEM11985186)

Stanley for Model Number WWRE6260

I replaced WH43X10034 agitator and WH49X10042 coupling on my GE WWRE6260 washer. The old ones came out fine. But the new WH49X10042 is stuck half way on the shaft, I can't move it up or down (even using the straps). The new bolt does not reach the shaft. I just put the agitator back on (with no bolt in the coupling). It seems to work. Is that ok? The reason I was replacing was loud noise. It seems to be the same, maybe something else was the reason.

Stanley, While this may work for a little bit, it will most likely work its way off. You will want to try to get it all the way down and get the bolt in place. Try twisting it a little to see if it is just stuck on the splines.

The agitator barely moves during the wash cycle. I've seen many videos suggesting the agitator coupler needs to be replaced. But in those videos, the agitator itself is obviously loose and doesn't spin properly. Mine will spin (by hand) as intended; the top part only in 1 direction, while the bottom part of the agitator moves in both directions. The belt and motor are also functioning. But when in wash mode, the agitator barely moves the clothes and water. This is a new (to me) washer, so I'm wondering if that's how its supposed to work (like a gentle clean) or if the coupler needs replacing, or if it points to something else?

1 Answer

Len, It sounds like the agitator is moving properly and the top is supposed to turn one direction while the bottom rotates 2 directions. The setting will determine how rapidly it turns and if it is on a normal cycle it will rotate faster than a gentle cycle. If it is not then this will be a agitator issue not a coupler issue.

Tony, This would most likely be a faulty agitator coupler that would need to be replaced.

Sam, it would be recommended that the unit is placed into a field service mode to identify if there are any errors being identified by the control. This can help to identify if there may be a motor control failure or a faulty main control.

I washed a blanket (as usual), and the material got tangled around the agitator coupling. Aside from that, the agitator flew off and the top of it was severely damaged since it was hitting the plastic inside of the washing machine. I removed the agitator and agitator coupling bolt to remove the fabric and placed it back on along with the agitator. The next time I washed clothes, the agitator popped off again. I am not sure what part(s) to replace, or is there something else I should take into consideration in order to prevent it from popping back off?

1 Answer

Celeste, If the bolt backed out then you will want to put a little Loctite on the threading. If the agitator is just popping off then this would most likely be a faulty agitator and will need to replace the agitator.

After replacing the agitator coupling on my washing machine, the machine would agitate normally. Spinning has never been a problem. Eventually I'll notice the machine isn't agitating (either I can hear it not moving properly or there's an abundance of soap in the drain sink). The agitator just spins in my hand. I used to replace the coupling every few months. Now the last one only lasted 2 weeks. The coupling I'm using is WH49X10042. My machine is WDSR2120J8WW. I keep the loads small because of this issue. Any other ideas? Thanks.

1 Answer

Lisa, It would be recommended to check the agitator coupler to ensure that the bolt did not back out of the coupler. If it did then you will want to put some loctite on it to help keep it in place. If the coupler bolt did not come loose then it could be the agitator that is stripped.
