Sam for Model Number GTW685BPL1DG

I got the board AP7211662 for the washer from you. I replaced it and entered the personality code of 6. The washer fills then immediately drains. If gives error message of water supply issue. The explanation I found is that it can not sense the water level, but there is plenty of water in it. My first question, is personality code 6 correct for this model? If so, what other issue might there be. If code 6 is not correct, how do I reset the personality code and what is the correct one. Thank you

1 Answer

Sam, The personality code for this unit shows that it should be code 7. You can put the unit into service diagnostics and go to test 17 which is to change the personality code.

Howdy for Model Number GTW680BSJ1WS

Initial symptom was that clothes were still very wet at end of wash cycle. Troubleshooting described below indicates the basket (even without any clothes in it) is OOB, and the BALANCING program tries unsuccessfully to correct it every time the machine runs. The final spin speed is low and the cycle ends that way, resulting in Error code 26. Troubleshooting: Error codes found on machine: 14, 26, 23, 7, 15. Entered service mode and performed many tests (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, & 15). The most relevent to the symptoms are drain pump (Test 12) and spin (Test 14). Both Test 12 and 14 when run looked good. The spin cycle reached very high speed (above the 450 rpm threshold mentioned in the service manual). Exited service mode. Ran a drain & spin cycle with no clothes in the basket. After 2 sprays of water, the drain pump ran, then the basket started to rotate. The basket reached mid speed (possibly only 450 rpm) and stopped. The display repeatedly displayed “Balancing” while the basket filled with ~20 gallons of water, ran the agitator, drained the basket, then rotated the basket up to probably 450 rpm, slowed the basket, tried again reaching about 450 rpm and ended the cycle. If clothes had been in the basket, they definitely would have been very wet at the end of this cycle. Service manual suggests for error 26 “cycle ended on OOB condition” to check the balancing ring, rod & spring assemblies, and speed sensor. I’m not sure what to look for on the balancing ring. Spin Test 14 looked very good which leads me to believe the rod & spring assemblies are OK. Do you have any recommendations?

1 Answer

Howdy, if the spin basket rotated properly in the test mode, the counterbalance ring would not be a concern as a failed one would cause the basket to slam around inside the frame. The spin basket operating for more than 15 seconds in the test mode will also identify that the speed sensor is good. As this is the case, the most likely cause of failure would be the main control WH22X35757.

Troy, Test to make sure that the cold side of the water valve is not clogged with sediment. A clogged water valve will cause the unit to fill during the rinse cycle.

Joan, It is most likely the control board but you can find the service sheet and enter diagnostics and check for error codes. The service sheet should be under the console.
