Crystal January 13, 2020 How do I clean these sensi temp burner coils? Is it safe to get them wet? I've tried looking everywhere online and there are no tips on how to clean them.
1 Answer Hello Crystal, it is not recommended to get the coils or sensor wet. Any residue on the coil would burn off in use. Read More...
Joleen January 12, 2020 can you change out the sensi temp burners with regular ones. can't boil water on them as the burn shuts off before it reaches boiling point
1 Answer Hello Joleen, as per the manufacturer's website, this is the explanation, "Starting in 2018, UL regulation requires all coil top ranges to have temperature limiting capabilities to reduce the risk of cooktop oil and grease fires. As a result, our electric coil burners now use Sensi-Temp Technology.". That being said, all stove manufacturers with electric stoves using cooktop coil elements have to use this or a similar type of safety temperature limiter. For the most part, it does not cause any cooking problems however since the sensor will only cut off once the area around the burner or pan reaches about 450 deg, The tradeoff is now you have to have flat-bottom pans that will touch all of the coil's top heating area to be able to absorb the coil's heat before it reaches the cut off point, same as with smooth top cooktops. Vic January 02, 2020 for Model Number JB258DM1WW Just got this range today. Tried to boil a pot of water for pasts tonight. The coil shut off twice -- once as the water was trying to come up to a boil, and again once the pasta was in the pot. It shut off for so long that the water completely stopped bubbling! I understand that this is due to the Sensi-Temp coil. Are there replacement coils I can purchase that are like my old ones that will not shut off during cooking? Is there a way to disable the Sensi-Temp until in each coil? I'm desperately looking for a solution in the next 30 days. If I can't find one I'll have to return the range as I cannot just cook on low and medium settings. From reading a few forums I see that this is a very common issue -- and may not be the fault of GE. You've probably seen this question a lot. What can I do? Thanks.
Pamela November 11, 2019 Who came up with this sensi temp. This is horrible I have a set of pots and cans I paid over $ 800 more for this stove!!! I hate this is there a way to turn it off or buy burners without this. I'm not trying to be rude but this is ridiculous.
1 Answer Pamela, the "sensi temp" cooking system has been in existence for quite sometime. Like anything else, some people enjoy/prefer the system, others don't. What we're going to need is the model number of your product, so we can review the circuits and advise you of the possible changes to your stove. Thanks, Read More...
Charlie Smith November 10, 2019 I know some people hate sensi temp burners. However, after 3 apartment fires due to stuff left on ranges, I want to convert all my apartments to sensi temp. Can I just replace the burners, or do I have to replace the entire range?
1 Answer Hello Charlie, you would have to replace the range for a unit that comes with a limiter installed. Thanks! Read More...
Patricia September 15, 2019 How do I operate a pressure canner on a sensi-temp coil? It's important that the temperature remain steady once the weight begins jiggling. The canner bottom is definitely wider than the coil. Will this affect performance of the sensi-temp coil? Also, how can I make jam on the sensi-temp coil, given that this requires maintenance of a full rolling boil? It almost seems as if this new technology was designed only for heating and serving, and not for serious cooks who need to maintain high temperatures for searing, jam-making, and canning.

Ken July 02, 2019 We just bought a GE electric range with coil cook tops and sensi temp technology. My wife is disgusted with this range, since she can't even boil spaghetti without the sensor shutting down the boil after one minute. Yes, flat pan, clean surface, etc. Any solution other than replace it?
Charles June 05, 2019 We have found that with the sensi temp coils we can no longer stir fry as we want, sear steaks, and in general cook many things as we did with regular coils. It has been very frustrating. Any suggestions. We have checked/cleaned the sensi temp contacts, use flat pans etc. Any suggestions?
1 Answer Charles, you will want to ensure that the cookware is flat and has no ridges or fine grooves by using a flat edge to verify that the cookware is flat. If the cookware is not properly flat or is not sized to the coil properly, this can influence performance as the sensi temp is going to limit how hot the coils can get to prevent chance of an oil fire. If the cookware used is verified as being flat, and is sized to the appropriate coil, amount of food being cooked on the coil can influence heating as well. If all these things check good, and the element cycles on and off too quickly, it is possible that the sensi temp could be inappropriately operating. If you could provide the model number for your appliance in a new inquiry, this will allow for the most accurate information possible. Read More...
