The Surface Unit Receptacle is an OEM part for GE cooktops and ranges. It is designed to hold and connect the surface heating element to the cooktop’s electrical system, providing a secure and reliable connection for the element to receive power.

Causes of a bad surface unit receptacle can include wear and tear from regular use, exposure to high temperatures, or electrical arcing. A malfunctioning receptacle can lead to improper heating element performance or electrical hazards.

Symptoms of a bad surface unit receptacle include:

  • The heating element not heating up or only heating intermittently
  • Visible damage or burn marks on the receptacle
  • Sparks or electrical arcing when the element is in use
  • The heating element feeling loose or not fitting securely in the receptacle

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Jeanne for Model Number JBP24GOF2AD

I have an OLD GE range oven from when I bought my place 1996...I think the range is older than that though. I cant find the model # to replace the 2 large burner elements and the units they fit into. The elements aren't heating up & when I take it apart & try to fit it back into the metal units sparks come out. I think the metal is all corroded on all of the units...the prongs and the units they fit into. Can you help in finding the right parts to repair these? Thanks. S/N HR227523G. .

Nhi T, You would want to disconnect power from the unit and use a flat blade screwdriver to release the tab holding the terminal in place.

John, Yes you can use the WB17X5113 receptacle kit with the "plastic" (Bakelite) receptacle. Just remember to use hi temp porcelain wire nuts and or "heat shrink" tubing to insulate the spliced wire connections. Yes the "coil" elements are pretty much interchangeable between models and brands of ranges. Thanks,

Ed, Open the oven door and remove two screws on the underside of cooktop at the front edge. Lift cooktop upward and support it with a rod. You'll have access to the receptacles and wires, Make sure you remove power to the range before you start the repairs.
